Strongly recommend a Toyota Vellfire or Alphard MPV, for child safety and space, all kids is encouraged to sit in the 2nd row, equipped with expended big seats, extending leg rest & adjustable head rest, both models come with air-con leather ventilated seats for comfort during hot weather and climate control for long journey drive up north.

Rear seat can be lifted up or someway to accommodate shopping groceries, bicycles storage and senior wheel-chair folding-in capacity storage, additional accessories can add on bicycle racks at the rear.

Light maintenance and Japs MPV do not have much engine issues or maintenance, only issue is the battery use is relatively run out in 6/7 months ( stock ) for heavy usage daily, you may consider a heavy duty brand instead.

It drives like a normal saloon car, easy to manoeuvre and high specs for all your needs

@Meanmachine if you read my review you will know why I didn’t choose it.  But for the kids and elderly comfort, and the safety of the 3rd row  isofix,  having the sharan was a no brainier for me.

yea if we didn’t  have kids I’ll go for the Alphard.

Anybody knows how Sharan compares to Sorento, CX 8 and Kodiaq 2L? Except the difference between SUV and MPV.

I agree with @Enye the boot space of the Sharan with all 3 rows of seats up is very decent, you can still go shopping, put a stroller, and as @Carbon82 mentioned, you have space for  a wheelchair too. Also, I sat in the 2nd row of all the cars you mentioned and  because the 3 seats of the Sharan are independent of each other , 3 full grown adults of 1.75m can sit comfortably without feeling too snug in the 2nd row. The rest of the other model the 2nd row seats 3 adults will feel a abit closed together. The Sharan is below 1.8 meter, so the older car park you can still fit it without problem.

@Thaiyotakamli no isofix at the 3rd row

Actually there is a good reason why ISOFIX child seat attachments are usually not found at the 3rd row. The third row isn't the best place to be for a child seat in the event of a rear collision. But anyway, congrats that you've found what you preferred in the Sharan 😀

Go try climb up the third row of full size SUV,l and have a fee  if how easy or difficult  to get in and out , you would know the big diff. If you could try it in a HDlB car park with cars at both sides ,  you would have even better feel between a low floor plane and sliding doors  of a full size MPV vs a full size SUV. I personally thought this is important consideration.

agreed.. both my Previa in the past always captain seats in the middle row to allow easy access to 3rd row. likewise for my company fleet of limo all captain seats.

Anyway driving a MPV oredi a compromise.. don expect much performance, FC etc.. I drive MPV for 13 years from 2 odyssey to previa.. at the end just choose one that tick most boxes.. driver for MPV will not be the song one.. it's the passengers..

I agree that putting a child in the third row is not the safest if there is a rear end collision. But again , with if a family has more then 1  kid, one of them has to be at the back, because  most MPV won’t not have the middle seat In the 2nd row  fitted with IsoFix, it’s usually the side two nearest to the door, if you choose the  walk through like the Alphard, you can get to the 3rd row back seat, but if you don’t , there is no way to access the 3rd row back seats when the two child seats are fitted in the 2nd row. And as I point out, it’s harder also for the two 80year old to get to the back 3rd even if it’s the walk through type.

@Ct3833 well said, I agree that you really have to think of the real life situations that you will encounter everyday . And coming out of the a parked full size SUV sandwich between two cars is as real as it gets. Or you can do the everyone gets out first before parking. Sliding doors is a better option

Have a feeling TS wants a sub 8 sec ride and wrapped the other criteria around it. Lol

It is the right decision, the best MPV for passengers is probably the Alphard but for driver, it really sucks.

If TS' parents or in-laws don't stay with them, a full sized sedan would hv suffice, more fun to drive.  There is really no perfect MPV, only a compromised ride.
