Cannot even pay for the jet fuel of the escort fighters.

Even off peak car cheats can get fined up to 5K.

The law really makes no sense.

True, how about the inconvenience to all the passengers, crew, others catching the connecting flight, ground crew, SPF, etc. Cane him and then deport him don't waste our money to feed him.

To shoot down the plane if necessary

It doesn't serve the purpose of protecting lives leh.

Yes, when the pilot refused to obey the order of the given flight path by our Air Traffic Controller.

Usually, the flight path is along the sea and not in residential areas.

The pilot was in full control, not commandeered.

My thought is the fighter jets cannot ensure the plane a safe landing if the aircraft has been commandeered.

It protects the lives on the ground.

That's the utmost important priority

Yup; for example, would the 9-11 disaster be prevented had there been alerts that the planes were hijacked and fighter jets scrambled?

SIA passenger who allegedly made bomb threat an example of drug harms: Shanmugam

I like this the best.

"He cited the case of a 25-year-old man who caused the deaths of his mother and grandmother while under the influence of hallucinogenic drug lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) in 2019. On Sept 23, the High Court ordered him to be confined indefinitely.

"We don't see activists holding candlelight vigils for either the grandmother or mother. Their lives matter, too," Mr Shanmugam said."

That's rubbish la.

That fellow has an underlying mental problem.  Sooner or later he will kill his mother and grandmother.

I am reading off this news article which does not mention anything under underlying mental condition. He was of sound mind, then took LSD and become xiao then killed his mother and grandmother.
