SINGAPORE: Police arrested a 37-year-old man on a Singapore Airlines flight after he assaulted cabin crew and claimed he had a bomb in his hand-carry bag, the police said on Wednesday (Sep 28).

In response to queries from CNA, police said it was alerted at 2.40am to an alleged bomb threat on board flight SQ33 from San Francisco to Singapore.

The plane landed safely at Changi Airport at about 5.50am, under the escort of Republic of Singapore Air Force fighter jets, police said.

The man was restrained by the crew, and police subsequently arrested him under Regulation 8(1) of the United Nations (Anti-Terrorism Measures) Regulations and for suspected consumption of controlled drugs, police said.

Just read in ST that one bomb-threat case last time the culprit was fined $4,500.00.

This SQ33 guy won't be let off so lightly as he had assaulted the cabin crew.

The plane was not commandeered. I am just curious what is the purpose of scrambling the fighter jets?

Cannot even pay for the jet fuel of the escort fighters.

Even off peak car cheats can get fined up to 5K.

The law really makes no sense.

Yes, when the pilot refused to obey the order of the given flight path by our Air Traffic Controller.

Usually, the flight path is along the sea and not in residential areas.
