This one when negotiating the very high humps at Woodlands custom will definitely need to chant "OrhMeeTohFuo" for sure 😆

Speaking of this, the humps at Woodlands are really uncalled for and excessive. So moronic. And I say that driving a non-lowered car.

Toyota Will Sell You A GR Yaris Lookalike In Japan With 118 HP And A CVT

2020-toyota-gr-yaris-base-version-jdm.jp

2020-toyota-gr-yaris-base-version-jdm.jp

Despite carrying the "RS" suffix that would suggest something exciting, the entry-level model is a hot hatch in name only. Although it may look a lot like the full-fat model, the GR Yaris RS is offered strictly with front-wheel drive. It gets worse since Toyota sells this flavor only with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The GR Yaris RS uses the "M15A-FKS" instead of the well-known "G16E-GTS" also installed in the GR Corolla and the one-off Lexus LBX Morizo RR. It's a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter unit instead of a turbocharged 1.6-liter. It too is a three-cylinder mill, but with only 118 hp and 145 Nm. The revised GR Yaris is now packing a GR Corolla Morizo-matching 300 hp and 400 Nm.

The GR Yaris RS is a rare example of upbadging straight from the factory. To the untrained eye, it looks just like the hot hatch but there are certain details betraying its true identity. For example, the speedometer only goes to 180 km/h whereas on the performance hatch it stops at 280 km/h.

@Tohto this "hot" hatch not ah pek car right (image wise)? :D

GTI, A8L, Cayenne GTS

These are all very very different cars. He sure has diverse tastes!

Different car for his different needs.

GTI when he is alone on short road trip or visiting sites.

A8L for more formal event or with visitors

Cayenne GTS for longer trip on NSHW (KL and up)

He also has a Vellfire V6, which is for family trip (but mostly driven by his kids for fetching their grandma)

@Carbon82 fake GR Yaris.. ML.

Stepping hard on the right paddle and hearing all the loud noise but car is not moving fast ahead.

Like those Lancelution, fake WRX, or FIT with gu ni gong exhaust.

I always prefer my car to be quiet, slightly tap on right paddle and move off already. Even thought my car is not that fast, at least it is reasonably quiet and smooth.

Worse when the said car has a CVT gearbox. That flat, moo-ing, droning exhaust noise that never rises to a crescendo - how is that even music to anyone's ear is a mystery.

Me too. Just quietly do it. The 350Nm low end torque helps too.

Someone at Toyota is not doing the thinking properly. They spent so much to compete in the WRC, build limited production units of the rally homologation special in the guise of the real GR Yaris, only for the marketing department to slap on the same bodykit and put a too close for comfort badge "GR Yaris RS" to dilute the GR branding and performance credentials of the real McCoy. At least BMW and AMG not so stupid to put the same M or AMG aerokit on their M Performance or AMG Line cars.

Actually Toyota is not the first automotive firm to pull such stunt. The first known case (for me) is Cupra Leon.

Historically, Cupra is known as the performance variant of Seat model. In 2018, Cupra become a standalone brand, with the aim to strengthen its image / position in performance car segment.

However, things took a sudden change when Cupra announced the lesser Leon and Sportstourer model in 2022. Power was cut by half to 150ps with the introduction of the 1.5T variant, which blur the line between Seat and Cupra.

There is no dignity in true performance, only dignity in the additional sales and $$$ a badge can bring in for the brand 🤣

No worry la.

I think the production year is 2021 & 2022 for domestic market.

Browsing through Japan used market, 3 out of 93 GR Yaris is RS.

But I can imagine myself as a GR Yaris owner. It was marketed and sold to me that the GR Yaris is only a limited production run worldwide with a wide stance, special drivetrain and function-over-form aerokit. Then Toyota proceeds to release a much watered down version which looked similar from outside 😆
