Exactly, no matter take drugs for what reason, but taking drugs in the first place is wrong la. Even the test is negative, it is a fact that he has already taken drugs liao. Should be punish for taking drugs.

Honesty does not right a wrong. He should pay for his crime. Then applaud his righteous honest confession.

He can’t anyhow travel now due to NS.

He will fail drug test during SEA Games if he smoke pot.

Likely CBD oil.

It is an offence to consume drugs in Singapore. Those found guilty of taking a controlled drug such as methamphetamine or "ice", heroin and cannabis can be jailed for between one and 10 years, or fined an amount not exceeding $20,000, or both.

Those found to have consumed controlled drugs outside Singapore will also be liable for the drug consumption offence

-------------

According to the news article both were issued with "formal warning" .

🤔🤔🤔

I think the issue here is he was tested negative.  Unless there are cases of someone who consumed drugs overseas, tested negative with no drugs on the person and getting jailed for that, then I think it's fair to give just a warning to him.

I only heard people in civil service will get sacked but not jailed. Of cos if tested positive, it's another story.

Tabacco is also an addictive substance. But it is sold everywhere. Plus govt get to tax tobacco. What is worse?

Distribution of tabacco can be controlled, so they tax while other addictive drugs cannot control the distribution, so they ban??

Is there really a right or wrong? Or is it just politics?

The MDA contains Singapore’s law on drugs. Under the MDA, there are three main types of drug offences:

Drug possession;

Drug consumption; and

Drug trafficking.

1. Drug Possession

It is an offence under section 8(a) of the MDA to possess controlled drugs. The penalty for possessing drugs is a maximum of 10 years’ imprisonment, or a fine of $20,000 or both.

Presumption of drug possession

The law adopts several presumptions to facilitate drug enforcement in relation to the investigation, search, and arrest of offenders under the MDA.

For example, if the police finds a packet of special K at your house that your friend left behind after a party, under section 18 of the MDA you are presumed to possess that drug, and to have known that it was a prohibited drug, unless you can prove otherwise.

It does not matter that you have never come into physical contact with the drug.

Cannabis is considered pretty safe unless you have schizophrenic tendencies or if u have a developing brain.

So to me, I don't really care.
I just think it's important for youngsters to recognize the legal and social repercussions/consequences if u consume some legally overseas (which is now getting more and more prevalent). Including my kids in the future.

It is the responsibility of every single athlete, to uphold the spirits of sports, to compete fair and clean. It is also his/her responsibility to understand what he/she is consuming. No excuse.

Many enhance supplements, pain relief drugs, emotional consoling drugs contain banned sustainables for professional athletes use, and they are all listed and updated regularly. Some are actually great products medically and many amatuers use them, but as a professional athlete, if it is banned, it means you cannot use it, simple rule.

In any case, if they really need to use a banned product for medical reasons, they are suppose to declare it with supporting evidences.

This one is really no excuse.

With great power, come great responsibility, the day they turn pro, they were all aware of this. -_-

An offence yes, but I don't think what he did is a crime. [laugh][laugh][laugh]

The article is really unclear.

WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) ban Cannabis in general except CBD.

CBD that is allowed must be so pure that THC (the element that makes ppl "high") has to be no more than x amount.

If he smokes pot, definitely fails SEA games drug test.  Unless SEA Games don't test him.

So far, NO medical research to substantiate the benefit of CBD medically or in sports.

Since he is doing NS now, he is going to retire athlete.

Seriously, if this post has come from someone else, I would have disliked it. It only shows SRY has not grown up.

As a professional athlete, he should know better what it means to use banned sustains. If he was just a close friend, and doesn't understand the code, well, forgivable, but fact is he is not.

Yes, give Jo supports, but support him in getting over this event and stand up again, not supporting him in taking banned sustains to overcome what he went through.

Lost of freedom because of enlistment is BS, going through the downs is part of life, Jo is old enough to have to learn to handle them. He has a choice to perhaps give up and retired clean.

Who choose to stand up or not behind Jo really is none of his buisness, firing at politicians with such request is just digging his own shit hole deeper. [laugh][laugh][laugh]
