What he is trying to tell you is Drive Toyota is troublefree.

I agreed with him.  I spent nothing to maintain MRS other than 1 oil change for 2+ years.

😂

Ppl who say that we are bashing this brand is incorrect. In the journey of car ownership many have been there done that. They have experience that nightmare of what "conti cars" can do to break down again and again and again...you get the point.

If you are willing to put yourself thru all that trouble just for "the drive", I mean go ahead and experience it first hand. It is your money and time.

Many ppl think it is not worth it for a reason. This is not a local issue, you can find ppl all over the globe facing the same issues. Some ppl think it is worth their time some dont. Here, everything car is costly, so it make sense why ppl stay away.

there is no right or wrong... so many have been through this route; started off with a manageable jap car and slowly upgrade (bigger jap car or conti car). The most economical way of course is to drive a compact jap car (reliability) all the way for 10 years, but how many can achieve this?

Even if your question today is "plan to change from Jazz to Accord", there will be some who will say stick to the Jazz.. Accord higher FC, tyre bigger so more expensive to change tyre.. Lol

You heard the crowd, so key point is to go in with the correct mindset.

Yes I can understand why people will want to stay away.

I'm also not bigging up VW, just offering another perspective from a VW owner.

The biggest issue i have with such cars or conti cars are their parts. If you think you just have to replace the problematic parts and you are home free. No. The newly replace parts have the same inherent issues or defects. Basically you are paying an absurd amount of money for a defective part. You only get to realise it when you keep replacing the part. The best thing is that ppl tell you it is "wear and tear". Or it is norm. I'm not saying cars from Japanese makes have parts that dont break down. They just last a much longer time.

I think ppl who have own other makes in the past like Italian, French and even Swedish cars faced all sorts of issues nobody had heard of. Until now I think nothing has changed. Then there is the problem with local dealers. Dont even want to go there. Even they dont keep stock for parts. Tell you they will indent and you wait long long.

6.5 years altis from new. 120+k km. Aircon compressor and one set of shock absorbers. I shouldn't even have done the shocks cos I sold the car like less than 4 months later.

7.5 years Honda. 105k km. 1 set of spark plugs and one pair of front brake pads recently (other than tyres and batteries). I'm going to drive to scrap, so basically my aim is to see whether I even need anything other than oil change until scrap.

But I also may consider conti for the next one haha, but depends on the resale market what's available then.

Mistress are more expensive to maintain than wives

but why do men have them?

They are more fun.

:D

But then we are not talking about a GTI

but a Volkswagen Golf 1.4A TSI.

Is it going to be a lot more fun?

120 bhp, its not even the twin charge 170 bhp.

For sure will visit workshops and pay more. Some are ok with it, given the better “conti” feel. I’ve been there done it. Rather reliability at the end of the day. Workshop rates are getting very pricey nowadays.
