Drop in filter vs Airspeed air intake

Hello,

I'm considering to upgrade my stock Fit GK3 air intake and am looking at 2 options. Would like to seek your opinions and recommendations.

Ultimately, i would like to achieve the following:

 - FC stays the same, if better, its a bonus

- sounds from engine bay , louder is fine,

- filtration is decent (not idea what happens if dust and dirt goes in)

- Will not sacrifice low end torque , hoping that the "laggyness" of pick up will be reduced.

My options are the following:

Option 1: Stock air box with drop in filter (knn, hurricane, Filter fellas - anyone heard of them before?)

Option 2: Change to airspeed air intake - see pictures

I am leaning towards option 2, but I am not sure if the filtration is decent. I do not want dirt dust to go into the engine hence my hesitation. Likewise, there seems to be multiple bends so I'm afraid low end torque will suffer. For cleaning wise, the ws shop informed me that i can either learn how to remove that black circular thing and wash myself or i can just go back to them pay them $10 for them to wash for me.

The ws though claims that pick up will be improved, and fc will improve as well. Of course, it will sound slightly louder.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. or if anyone has option 2 installed, do let me know your verdict if it is worth the upgrade. Thank you.

For small capacity engines like 1.6L NA and below the aftermarket air intake makes no difference from stock airbox.

The steel pipe will only absorb more heat compared to the stock rubber ones. Heating up the air going into the engine. Not ideal conditions. IMO the stock airbox is design for fuel economy which I think is more practical.

Hello, Thank you for the reply.

What do you think about the bends ? Too many ?
Do you think the filtration will be affected ? Will engine oil help to flush out the dirt and dust from the lack of filtration ?

I do not want to do anything that may potentially harm the engine.

there are a couple of videos in YT proved that aftermarket filter does add hp. But it is something that might be hard to feel.

if you want lesser dirt to go into the engine, option 1 will be better. But both are worse is filtering air than stock paper filter. For SS filter, you need to buy the cleaning kit and clean your own. I've tried both open pod before and ending up with the drop in filter. Still using drop in filter now as i feel an airbox is better in directing the air into the intake.

Looking at the pics, im not too keen with the airspeed system. Seems that there are alot of bends which will reduce the efficiency of the air flow. I think this is more restrictive than the stock air box.  I'm also skeptical about these filters improving the pick up as normally it is the opposite.

You can consider drop in air filter like k and n, I won’t really recommend stainless steel filter though. In terms of filtration to remove dirt particles before they enter your engine , stock>> oiled  drop in filters like k and n >> stainless steel air filters like hurricane. Not sure about those air intakes in terms of filtration, they do give you louder sound  when you rev though and slightly more bhp at higher rpm range. You could consider drop in k and n filter then send your car for tuning to maximize the gains, so that your initial pickup doesn’t feel so laggy. Your tuner will try and adjust your air fuel ratio and adjust your torque curve so that more torque is available throughout the rev range. Look for h**  performance if interested to tune.

I guess i shall just stick to stock air box. Maybe just drop in an aftermarket filter from the original ones.

Same sentiments. The filtration of the intake is really questionable. I don't know how good or bad they are.

I’m using k and n drop in air filter using it for more than one year plus already ( comes pre-oiled from factory) and it’s not too bad. Just need to get it re oiled after about every 6 months  plus of usage. Induction noise is louder and you do get some bhp at high rpm range also lol 😆. I highly suggest tuning if eliminating the lagginess feeling when accelerating is what you are after. Just note that bhp won’t increase by much, probably 5-10bhp max since engine is NA. Or just step harder when accelerating, yours is 1.3 or 1.5 engine?. 1.5 version is not bad from i what heard, decent power to weight ratio for such a light body.

Mine is the 1.3. Not that im after alot of performance and all. haha.

Just hoping that the pick up and improve slightly. Afterall, its a a to b car. :D

i've been using K&N for 8 years on my previous ride and 5 years on my current ride. So far no problem.

This video is quite informative.

Thanks. I will watch it at home later.

I suggest you don't change. if you want, K&N can le.

When you sell your car, the mod you do, might not be the mod the next owner like.

Plan ahead. If you want to trick yourself with better performance, then get a e-throttle controller. It will trick you to feel your car have more power.

Give me I will invest a nice speaker and a Amp, Maybe a small under seat woofer. Make your ride more pleasant!

for a 1.3L NA, i think such a "mod" won't make much difference in performance. Can go ahead with the K&N drop in) since it's a low hanging fruit but do so with low expectations. It may sound shiok initially but after a few weeks u will get used to it. Avoid the option #2.

probably better to spend on a set of lightweight forged wheels (lower unsprung weight and rolling inertia)

lol your car no need mods cos engine powerful enough mah, k20A 😁

But then most CL7R's like other type R's ( civics, integras)  are modded for even more power 😂( most of them at least),

lol you can consider HKS exhaust muffler ( its LTA legal, looks good and gives loud sound also😁), plus add some BHP at top end range BUT BUT think your low end pick up will suffer a bit if never tune your engine.
