My theory of why RFT tend to have this unique circumferential tearing is because when a RFT has a leak, the driver can still drive on for a long distance before getting the tire patched. So the period when it is deflated but still running on the stiff sidewall will put prolonged excessive pressure on the jointline between the reinforced sidewall and the tire shoulder. By the time the tire is patched and inflated, everything looks normal from the outside but damage to the internal support structure already occurred. So this tire will be prone to a blow out that tears along the circumference of the sidewall (where the stress damage had occured)

I drove my last car, a F10 BMW, for 8 years going through 4 sets of RFT tyres with over 160k km. Over that period, I had had 5 or 6 punctures due to nails. Each time they were patched without issues at a tyre shop. RFTs have their benefits because many times I found out about the nail when driving. And every time, I can drive to my destination, finish my meeting and proceed to the workshop without a hinge of a problem. The only downside is not exceeding 80km/h. That is a good 30-50km drive without having to call a tow truck or pump air to the tyres.

That kind of damage to the tyre in the pic is very rare.

this one nothing lah… considering recently a lexus was driving on a bare rim without tyre 

what would be impressive though would be someone up the game and drive on a brake disc

Now I feel more understanding of why some BMW drivers driving slowly on road. 😅

Could be flat tyres.

The driver kept on driving on a punctured tire. The rim will shred the tire.

It just shows how ignorant ppl can be.

There's a reason why BMW chose to use run-flats. It is because of such drivers.

My Friend bought a new 730il..it came with Hankook Tyres..He ask the Salesman,why came with this "Pariah" Tyres.?The Salesman said from Factory,of course He is not happy,he told the Salesman,must well you give me Westlake Tyres.!(by the way,the Car he Test Drive is using Michelin).

The AD has no control on what tyres are put on the car from factory ( not just in Singapore ) . Like some overseas grumble that their M3 comes with Pirelli instead of Michelin PS4S.

Heard Porsche can also come with Hankook .

Of cos... Just not my style to get the biggest piece of metal of the range with the smallest power. Same goes for my opinion of S280L, E180... S80 D2

Just like you will not bother with the 2 series if you are to get the 218i
