NDP Has Chartered MRT Trains for P5 Students National Education Show

1. Transport requirements for each primary school are worked out

The NDP spectator team will liaise with the Ministry of Education (MOE) on the NE Show dates and transport requirements for each primary school.

Certain primary schools near an MRT station are specially allocated a chartered MRT train to and fro the parade venue.

 

2. Chartered MRT Trains are then allocated for primary schools

The rail operator slots the specially chartered MRT trains between regular service ones, which will stop at the MRT station near the primary school and the parade venue.

Military personnel from the NDP spectator team will coordinate with the MRT station staff on the timing in the afternoon to accompany students and teachers from their primary school to the MRT station.

They will first be held at a waiting area on the MRT station platform before their allocated chartered MRT train arrives. These chartered MRT trains are denoted on the station platform screens as a ‘do not board’ train for regular commuters.

A chartered MRT train may carry two to three primary schools; thus, each group will have an allocated boarding door to prevent a mix-up.

 

3. Arrival and departure from the parade venue

Students and teachers will alight from the chartered MRT train when arriving at the MRT station near the parade venue.

They will first be held at the MRT station platform for a headcount before proceeding to the parade venue on foot.

When the NE Show is over in the late evening, the military personnel will accompany students and teachers back to the nearby MRT station.

They will board another chartered MRT train back to their respective MRT stations near their primary schools.

 

Chartered MRT Trains are not unique to the National Day Parade

According to an article by The Straits Times in 2014, Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) had chartered five MRT trains to the National Stadium.

The vice-president of corporate information and communications for rail operator SMRT mentioned that they had “worked with schools in the past to charter trains and transport students for large-scale events such as the National Day Parade rehearsals.”

“Chartered trains run between normal train services and strictly within off-peak hours only. SMRT assures passengers that train intervals are maintained at normal service levels at all times,” he added.

Those students needs to change train to get to promenade station if their school MRT line is not along CCL? Consider quite a big scale of transportation movement le, why dont just chartered a bus and the bus go directly from school to NDP venue last time practice?

Of course. If you have been to the Padang after the kids NE show, it’s one big cluster F! 😂

Buses everywhere. If the teacher is a blur F, then good luck finding the correct bus! Going via MRT is much easier. Just gather the kids and head toward the station and then do a headcount.

Finding the correct bus after the NE show is worst than finding the correct tour bus at places of interest when holiday? Lol.

Train is definitely more efficient for moving large numbers of people than buses.  And the students who take the train will probably get home earlier than those on buses too

Charter private buses has its problems too. It depends on the cohort size of the P5s. Big schools may have 12 classes which require 12 buses. Smaller schools may range from 3 to 5 buses. 

As the buses were not booked by the individual schools. For the journey to the stadium, they need to wait for the buses to come and fetch them.

For dismissal, they buses are deployed like taxi service, that means those in the head of the Q will take those students leaving the stadium first. 

In previous years, there were cases where the drives did not know the way to the school. They go around the wrong way and some students reached their schools after midnight.

Thought those bus drivers should be familiar with sg roads since they are suppose to drive everywhere on the road? Or at least they should use GPS to help them to get around?

MRT chartered doesn’t benefit every primary school, cause some schools is not near to MRT or need to walk quite a distance to MRT. So still need to charter for buses lo. 😂

Private bus drivers don't really go every where. They ply according to their zone or route. GPS will also bring them to Holland la.

Those schools that are far from MRT Stations will not be able to use MRT.

Saw those students going back after last time rehearsal, adorable indeed.😄
Some look like minister material, some will be scholars, some look like they will be future SAF generals, or police superintendents or commissioners.👍
