i dont know, to me the crown caters to a very traditional japanese head of corporation type of people .. conservative looks, quiet, comfortable (i remember the crown offers wool upholstery instead of leather as standard because their customers prefer it and it is more comfortable to the touch - this shows that it should not blindly follow the trend (e.g of going animal skins for everything from seats to dashboard) ..

not that this new design is not nice but it may be a little too progressive for these conservatives?

Regarding the wool for upholstery, I recalled reading about it that the Japanese prefer wool and velour, because they do no creak and crack like leather over the years, and yes, comfort was one factor too because it offers a more stable surface to seat and touch on compare to leather, which is either too hot under the Sun or too cold during Winter times.

To add on about the Wool or Velour, which doesn't cause creaking noise, it helps to achieve the level of cabin noise refinement that the Japanese was very particular about and hence they consider these materials are actually a luxury pick over leather.

only down side with fabric or velour as its called (its due to our high humidity and sweat) which it will absorb  and if kenna stain marks will leave an indelible mark or stains and look really aaaauuurghhhh  ; whilst leather can be just wiped with a wet cloth with a little bit of soap to keep the material clean (especially when kids eat or do what not)

Ya lo, fabric sure would leave a stain marks after prolong using, and it cannot be remove de. Looks so ugly and dirty. But comfy wise, i like fabric than leather. Leather simply too hot to sit if the car is parked under hot sun.

To cover the ugly stains on the fabric seat. Lol. Anyway, fabric seat difficult to find in sg cars now liao. Even those cars which comes with fabric seat, owner also go change into leather. But in malaysia still can find fabric seat in cars.

(edited)

So the 'Crossover' type is essentially a lifted 'Sedan', then the 'Sports' which appears to be more of an actual crossover, and the 'Estate' type which is actually an SUV..

Patent images obtained by Japanese magazines from the local trademark bureau show a new take on the Crown. It doesn’t seem to be wearing its distinctive badge, but we're being told this high-riding fastback will indeed be sold as a Crown. The somewhat odd shape should be familiar as the Citroën C5 X and China's Ford Evos have a similar body. Going back in time, we're getting hints of the defunct Honda Crosstour.

The car featured here will reportedly go by the name of Crown Cross and should have the following dimensions: 4,930 mm long, 1,840 mm wide, and 1,540 mm tall, with a wheelbase measuring 2,850 mm. That would make it bigger in every dimension compared to the outgoing sedan, but with a slightly shorter wheelbase.

Sources from the Land of the Rising Sun claim Toyota wants to sell the reinvented Crown with a four-cylinder 2.5-liter hybrid engine hooked out to a CVT. There also might be a turbocharged 2.4-liter with an electric motor and a six-speed automatic. It will sit on the TNGA-K platform and come with a choice between front- and all-wheel drive, with a plug-in hybrid option in the works.

The official premiere is allegedly locked in for July 15. And I forgot to add, when I first saw its face, it is >90% like the Civic.

The 2024 Crown Sedan can be had as a fuel cell vehicle, in which case it inherits the hydrogen setup from the Mirai. With the three hydrogen tanks full, it can cover as much as 510 miles before having to refill, which Toyota says should take as little as three minutes or about as much as refueling an ICE car. This FCEV variant can also power your home or electrical appliances. In addition, two accessory outlets mounted inside the car can double as an emergency power supply system since they'll work even if the vehicle is turned off.

Alternatively, Toyota will sell the Crown Sedan with a newly developed 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain that combines a gasoline engine with two motors. Complete technical specifications have yet to be released but we do know the full power is available from about 27 mph, which is a lot sooner than the 87 mph speed mentioned by Toyota for previous hybrid systems.
