Tesla model Y

Test drove the model Y over the weekend. Will say that white with 20 inch wheels look nice, a bit like GLC coupe.

1. Love the lift back. Compared to the 3, boot is so much bigger and assessible.

2. Interior was quite good seats felt comfy. Again the 3 is a bit claustrophobic at the back especially. The 50cm length diff between 3 and Y is very apparent.

3. Like most dun really like that amenities and functions we are used to have to use the console to access. Only the seat adjustment and door opening no need use console. Will take a lot of getting used to.

4. Once in the test car, can immediately feel the 'greenhouse' effect. The full glass panaroma roof while makes it appear roomier but in can feel the sun. SE say can tint more than the current 70%. Compared to my current car with moonroof it's really much hotter. Luckily the car can auto on with the app switch on air con first. I think a lot of people will prob use this feature most.

5. 1st time driving EV and was encouraged to straightaway use the 'hold' mode where its totally engine braking. So throughout the journey it's just throttle control. Even at the lights I do not use brake at all. Drive itself was quite good, a bit of road noise as expected but generally quiet. Instant torque also makes accelerating a breeze.

6. The autonomous driving is like enhanced cruise control.  The sensors work 360 degree to keep vehicle in lane.

7. Auto parking is different from the rest as u no need to toggle drive and reverse. Just press and the next thing is car parked just leave.

Overall impressions quite a good ride and it's definitely worth the $30k more than 3. For the purchase itself, tsla will put in +5% over last coe price over 8 continuous bids. However end of day u just pay the coe + price of car which I feel is fairer. However now Coe at ath but its certainly a car I will consider when coe comes down to saner levels

What’s the new price for a Model Y now that there’s a price war going on between Tesla and the rest of the car manufacturers? It should be 20% cheaper now.

I think 10k discount + 10k higher trade in price

Tesla price is transparent.

Polestar 2 OMV is $50+k

Model Y OMV is $90+k

Both car has similar depreciation

They acting like an AD as Tesla world wide prices dropping but not here…

They make margins on manufacturing of the cars unlike ADs who make margins on being the middleman. It's fundamentally different..

@Freeder Tesla isn’t the only EV game in town anymore. There’s going to be lots of competition from new and established car manufacturers. If Tesla doesn't remain competitive- others will. BYD, SAIC and 600+ other Chinese car manufacturers are forcing Tesla to drop prices in China.

As the EV vehicle numbers grow in Singapore, some of those Chinese EV car manufacturers are going for their fair share of the market. They’re hoping that Tesla continues to sit on their laurels and there’s still enough Tesla fanatics who are willing to pay the price. Once that pool is exhausted, the more saner buyers will compare what the competition has to offer.

I’m serious if Tesla doesn’t respond to competition in terms of lowering the OMV of the Model 3 and Model Y. This will reduce the AFR. (Edit: this is what I meant by Tesla sitting on their laurels)

BYD will most likely take over the EV market from Tesla in 2023 in terms of EVs on the road.

Tesla has 28% of the EV car market in 2022. That’s down from around 33% in 2021. There are now 25 car manufacturers offering EVs in 2022. Five more than in 2021. There’s going to be more entrants in 2023.

This is because the EV car market is growing around 100% year for the past two years.

Competition is going to be fierce in EV world. It’s good to be consumer.

In terms of performance, it appears that tesla has been leading for quite awhile. Their single speed electric motor is capable of well over 200km/hr, significantly faster than other EVs in similar price bracket.

Agree with you in terms of market share, it BYD is doing very well and recently dethroned Tesla in China, the world's biggest EV market.

But i think in general, Tesla and BYD are in different market segment. So can't really draw a fair comparison unless we talk about model vs model.

Well the 2023 Budget is going to make all Teslas (including the Model Y) more expensive going forward: https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/budget-2023-car-tax-arf-parf-omv-coe-3277081?cid=internal_sharetool_iphone_15022023_cna

New bands for AFR.

1st $20k —-> 100%
$20k to $40k —> 140%
$40k to $60k —> 190%
$60k to $80k —> 250%
above $80k —> 320%

AFR going up from for vehicles above $40k in OMV.
All Tesla vehicles are eligible.

So expect a price increase going forward…:O
