At least he is aware he is over, and keeps a tight ship.

In USA, the next step is to borrow more or use another credit card..

I even know some friends who intend to carry their debt to their deaths, instead of paying up..

Lean burn, but if the man can't afford petrol, he is likely to be a marginal car buyer..

Might be better to sell the car for a higher value now and maybe buy a car when his financial situation improves:

60 restaurant bill for whole family of 5. He must share where!

I am a bit lucky - got to watch my diet now so skipping crabs, fatty beef etc expensive food and save money. Kopi C also changed to kopi O (don't want the milk) saving 20 cents....

Inflation and recession is a time where we were reminded not to live a lifestyle that is too extravagant.  People tend to equate an extravagant lifestyle as a higher quality of life which is merely an illusion.  There is no higher quality of life when the workload has to be increased or one has to run faster at the hamster wheel just to sustain the income needed for that lifestyle. All these comes at the expense of stress, mental and physical health which then affects well-being and relationship. These are unsustainable and hence caused a lot of mental health issues in the recent years.

So hope people look at inflation and recession as time not just to balance back their wallet but also a time to self-reflect on what is truly important to them and family.

It's not easy, especially if there is a past memory of high living or the ego prevents us from doing so..

But hey, I rather put the money towards baby 🙂

Worst of the lot must be barefoot runners - they don't even buy shoes!
