China Eastern Black Box Points to Intentional Nosedive

Flight data suggests someone in cockpit pushed Boeing 737-800 into near-vertical descent, according to a preliminary U.S. assessment

Flight data indicates someone in the cockpit intentionally crashed a China Eastern jet earlier this year, according to people familiar with U.S. officials’ preliminary assessment of what led to the accident.

Both sides have vested interest. No truly independent 3rd party.

PRC want to cover up if indeed the crash was deliberate.

The aircraft manufacturer, and by extension, the US, want to cover up if indeed there was a technical cause for the crash. The 737-800 is a cash cow and used by many operators worldwide. A technical fault would dent confidence and be very expensive to fix.

Agreed.

With modern and vast improvement in technology and data transfer.. it is very possible to transmit data via satellite or whatever to ground storage.. even a decentralized one if one wanna be truly open.. till now they still prefer to keep in the black box.. guess they just wanna keep it this way..

If there is a technical issue, PRC sure will expose it one. But now they say no technical issue.

It was said to be a revenge suicide. But I do not understand why PRC is covering up just to tell everyone they are perfect?

Loads of data can be sent through telemetry from air to ground now. Only problem is the cost, relying on VHF or SATCOM service providers.

Also cockpit voice recordings can be similarly sent to ground for recording as the flight progresses.

However i think one barrier to all this is the issue of confidentiality. Pilots don't like their every move and word recorded for scrutiny except when required by safety/investigation reasons. And yet if the incident is as serious as a crash like this, there's nothing possible to recover.

My friend was seeing an aircraft maintenance person as a patient 1-2 days after the crash and when the video showed how it plummeted to the ground.
Anecdotally according to him, the aircraft guy said 100% must be intentional, not part failure.

I wonder how will they cover this up on the mainland. Though I'm sure everyone zai zai.

aviation accidents involve very large payouts, so final conclusion is usually years later. they have to be very careful how they word their statements.

in this case they have black boxes intact so at least hard data is available for all to review.

US and China are not in good terms. I wont be surprised if US made such unfounded reports to sabotage China. US is not the first time doing bad behind and upfront acted good.

Looking at how China silenced all this discussion on this flight.

I will not be surprised with NTSB conclusion.
