they probably took an old orig driveshaft and replaced the CV joints on both ends, thus OEM.. depending on the CV joints used. could be as good as orig

ya. replace 'new' drive shaft mostly mean the shaft itself is old shaft. only the 2 joints is new. ( its as good as a new 1 )

a totally brand new drive shaft cost alot alot more.

No 1 do that unless at AD. or accident and damage the whole shaft.

Yes I understand that as well - but at the very least you should go take a shaft which is original, like mine, recon it and swap with my original broken shaft right?

If you give me a dinky Chinese shaft that's been recon, and I swap in my original shaft (though broken)... Well I think YOU should be paying me for it instead! Because I know the moment I let you have mine you're gonna recon it and flip it for a bigger profit (sell at maybe x2-x3 the price of the Chinese recon shaft), and still try to earn from me by me trading down my original broken shaft for a recon Chinese shaft (yet still pay the workshop for the part!)

which is why i usually go to elite driveshaft and not get shafted! haha, they just replace the end that is causing problem. typically on a FWD it is the outer joints.

if i'm not wrong they are the only ones that will remove from the car and replace the CV joint. normal workshop can remove the driveshaft but not rebuild. and the driveshift rebuilt places, dont remove the shaft from the car.

Those 'recon' drive shaft are reconed from the originals driveshaft which they collect back.

When we buy those 'new' recon drive shaft its 1 for 1 trade in. They take in your old drive shaft fix the 2 joints and resell.

can u tell me how do u check if your shaft is make in china or india or japan or germany?

Can't really tell the country, though sometimes there are engravings of the brand or part number on the shaft itself from the manufacturer.

Also, some original driveshafts come with features like ABS modules integrated onto it, whereas the Chinese ones don't. Which is why the Chinese ones can sometimes cost just a third of the price of the original brand.

But don't drill too deep into my knowledge - I'm just a weekend wannabe mechanic.

I think you mean the shaft comes with the abs ring.

Generally can an alternator be repaired ? If they can, how long can one expect the repaired one to last ?

My alternator spoilt earlier this month and the ws gave me 2 choices.

1. Send it for repair for $300

2. Buy a new alternator at $1.6k (the kena chop option)

I went with option 1. Now that i think back, i should have sourced for a cheaper brand new alternator for a peace of mind.

Anyone had they alternator repaired and still managed to last for quite a bit ?

@Fcw75 Thank you. Will you advise to get it changed to a new one or can stay with the recon one till it goes bad again ?

Expand

I guess depends on how long you keep your car till scrap. If 1 or 2 years, I would repair.

If 5 years to go, I would change a new one.

Oh, the price difference too.

But that’s just me.

It is not lousy it is just that car owners nowadays like to install a lot of lights interior and exterior, install all kinds of gadgets and audio stuff. How long can the alternator take? So it quits early.

If "your friend" buy direct from distributor he will save 30%, yes that is their mark up, reach mechanic hands some more mark up. Go figure.

Perhaps. I don't really have many things hooked up except for a obd hub display (not the racing kinds like lufi etc) and a fast charging cable for my phone. Now i'm thinking if its due to the charging cable or not ...

@ER-3682 a 3 years old Honda fit!

Expand

3years old Honda Fit alternator spoil? Sure? Or workshop pull a fast one?
name the workshop please.
An original one cannot be $1600.

I googled and found out the part number. Should be Honda “ahga92” or ahga103

or you should call up Honda stockist and give your chassis number. They will quote you the alternator part price.
