Aiya, just put a sticker of your angry face next to the fuel gauge. Or anywhere she can see. It will serve as a better reminder.

is that your shared car or her car. If it is her car, then leave her to it so that a lesson is learnt.

I had a couple of cases, where car owners told me to change battery bcuz the car wouldn't start.

I had to check the fuel level first. It was totally empty and I told them so.

Huh ? need petrol to start engine ?

Of cuz, how do you think the car can start and move.. To help them, I had to drive to the petrol station, bring a can of petrol back, with a funnel, and start their engine.

Is like, "I need to take food to feel full and have energy ah?"😄

My wife has licence but I to drive her out and later fetch her back even if I don't use the car.

Because I don't trust her driving..

Aiya, practise makes perfect la, driving is something need to drive more to improve de. If you are not in the car, just close both eyes and let her drive out the car on her own, esp if she wants to drive. Sometimes some wife even you trust her driving and want her to drive, she also refuse to drive or dont want to drive. Lol.

@Phang luckily this doesn't apply to me anymore cos my wife prefers to be a passenger now.  but the same headache goes to my daughter.  The only meter she checks is the speedo and thankfully she still do that regularly.  No checking of tacho, temp and of cos the fuel gauge.  Several times she took the car when it was below quarter tank and still drove to the other end of the island and back😅

Woman!

These days I have the tendency to drive until low fuel indicator comes on. Too busy these days until I don't even have the time to fuel up or simply overlook it.

staff at the station helped her to move the car to the pump

I think a subtle low fuel warning on the instrument cluster doesn't work for her

engineer should allow user to set it to a more intrusive warning

like turning off the music and aircon, black out the entire screen and showing a full screen flashing red low fuel warning and chant "warning low fuel warning low fuel warning low fuel" loud and non stop until it is refilled

Some cars buzz once when the calculated distance to zero is 25 km. Then every 5 km buzz twice in quick session and once less than 5 km the chime is insanely quick for 10 seconds. But from a driver prospective, it not helping to induce anxiety.

however, the message gets across n you will only do this one time and try not to relived that experience

it's not me, it's my wife

she did that to every single car she drives

this morning the car app in my phone shows low fuel warning and my wife was out with the car

I was caught in a dilemma

should I trust her? a veteran driver with more than 20 years (half a million km) of driving experience

or history will repeat itself?

I don't want to ruin my weekends by carrying a jerry can to petrol station and filling up the car at the shoulder of the expressway

I called, she is not aware of the low fuel warning at all

she made a detour to the nearest petrol station and the car stalled right at the entrance of the station

Technically the bigger problem is your wife car engine gonna be shit overtime 😅😭

That is a sexist statement.

I personally experienced once as well decades ago. 100m to the station and it stalked. So ended up I push while wifey behind the wheel. Only those that have personally experienced it would concurred  that wasn't the worse part.

The worst come when you was entering the station. The hump right at the entrance. Eventually two /three uncle came over to help. 🤣

Some station is sitting on slightly higher ground than the road.

From this thread, looks like rich men have this problem even more, cos it's multiplied by the number of cars they own. Wife also have a car to call her own? [laugh]

Anyways it is very strange to run out of fuel in SG. Being a very small island and petrol stations everywhere. As someone mentioned when low fuel light illuminates you still have enough to drive to extreme ends of the island to refuel.

But in bigger countries with long, open roads, non-highway, like Malaysia, or worse, Oz or NZ, better refuel at every opportunity
