Watwheels Supersonic March 18, 2022 Share March 18, 2022 That's why it is good to wait a little for the battery technology to reach the faster charging rate. I am looking forward to the solid state batteries which have a higher energy density, hence use lesser amount of batteries which translate to lesser kerb weight. No risk of fire unlike the Li-ion liquid batteries most ev are using now. Hopefully more efficient charging and less waiting time.

In addition, charging rate is dependent on the installation of faster chargers.

The latest battery technology for battery pack is Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4). Much higher temperature tolerance and more charging cycles before degradation. Now use in in-car battery packs and I think it will be used in some EV battery packs soon.
Ingenius Turbocharged March 18, 2022 Author Share March 18, 2022 (edited) This video explains that the price barrier of usd$36k, 31 minutes charging time and minimum range of 291 miles, have been overcome. The problem with ev adoption is that the cost of building a 250kw charging station is about $350k, and is not proliferate yet. And so this translate to not enough charging station being built, and this pose a problem of ev vehicle unable to charge and acheive a range longer than 291 miles, when travelling between states. It is a problem with infrastructure, as it is a chicken and egg problem. One charging station is built for every x number of cars. Not enough cars, not enough charging station. And the electricity grit also has to be ready, which is not built to be, long ago. And different ev uses different adapter, like Tesla is different from Nissan. Something like that. For now evs need to go the way of going to recharging stations to swap batteries. Automated robot arms take out old batteries and put in freshly charged ones. But means all EV makers must agree on common standard, size and fittings. Edited March 18, 2022 by Karoon

Gogoro also hit into problem when large number of users swap battery. A lot of batteries are not fully charged. There is no perfect solution. Atonchia Supersonic March 18, 2022 Share March 18, 2022 I think most gov prefer EV because they get tarrif from selling electricity. If sell gas, not sure there is framework to tax the sales. Petrol is also straight forward. Have excise duties and GST collected. but I think selling liquid hydrogen is faster than charging batteries. or SG should allow both system to run concurrently. Allow consumer preference. car power output will be main criteria for road tax and COE.

There is insufficient number of cars to justify the infra. As Hydrogen is sold by weight, no issue with tax collection. In US, most of it in Cali (43 out of 45). You can’t just drive into airliquide to pump

Though the EV charging takes a longer time. ↡ Advertisement
