Seems like Ukraine for the past 2 or 3 days has put up to almost no defense on the Eastern Frontline. Basically they just retreated and allow the Russian to advance. I just hope Ukraine has something big coming up (Kursk, Crimea, massive strike inside Russia?) and these retreats are for conserving soldiers life.

Basically Ukrqaine didn't put up much a fight to defend the eastern front. Just retreat and let Russian advance, which explain why Russian are advancing very fast in the East these 2 days.

I really hope that Ukraine has something up their sleeved which we don't know yet.

The Povkrovsk front is collapsing very quickly for the Ukraine. This is the place where the Ukraine just left their defense line and let Russian take control. So what is going on with the Ukraine? Really hope is a strategic retreat for something bigger.

But somehow the donor has very little say in this. USA seems to have the final say, even with Storm Shadow which UK is very keen to allow Ukraine to use them inside Russia.

And it seems the idea that Ukraine occupies parts of Russian territory has become normalized - and at some point of time, they become a bargaining chip to trade territory back.

With Ukraine thrusting in the north while retreating in the east, they are making Russians reposition to defend, while simultaneously stretch their supply lines and depth of forces.

What remains to be seen is whether this is Ukraine’s intentions or a forced decision out of desperation.

Bad news, so fast got one F16 crash. I take it as not being shot down, but due to error or malfunction. RIP to the pilots. Big loss, coz it takes too long to train a pilot.

Sad day for Ukraine, for loss of one F-16 and pilot. Seems like he tried too hard, shot down 3 cruise missiles and one UAV, and maybe lost control.

https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2024/08/29/7472548/

Quote: "Defending our country, Oleksii Mes, a pilot of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was killed.

He heroically fought his last battle in the sky. On 26 August, while repelling a massive Russian combined missile and drone attack, Oleksii destroyed three cruise missiles and one attack UAV.

Oleksii saved Ukrainians from deadly Russian missiles. Unfortunately, at the cost of his own life."

Details: The Air Force said that on 29 August, brothers-in-arms, commanders and subordinates, friends and colleagues, and hundreds of ordinary Ukrainians bid farewell to the pilot.

"A pair of MiG-29 fighters paid tribute to the fallen pilot from the sky. Oleksii's combat friends flew over the procession. By the order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant Colonel Oleksii Mes was posthumously promoted to the rank of colonel," the Air Force said.

Does Lukashenko has a red line with Putin? Russian drones accidentally flown into Belarus, and they shot it down. Luka has to issue warning to putin.

Ukraine used electronic jamming of the drones

navigation system and the drone started flying

into Belarus!

I think its called friendly fire

or Red on Red attack.

:D

This is the same guy during the early days of the Kursk incursion, he troops retreated without a fight, looking for more favorable ground. Then he claimed they are elite soldiers so they don't waste lives on playing defense. Other excuses include their enemies just bypass them, therefore there were no engagement. Til now, it's still a mystery if this Akmat commander and his soldiers had ever engaged in a battle inside Kursk.

Thought the Russians using aerial bombs (glide bombs?) on civilian targets. This is new. Why doesn't the west see this as an step up escalation by Putin? Why is it only putin decides what is his red line?

The su34/35 need to be taken care off asap.

The sacking is probably related to the F16 crash. Russian X account are talking about possible friendly fire from Ukrainian Air defense, likely the Patriot. Apparently due to lack of proper coordination or the Friend or foe not done right. I think this Fighter jets and AD working together during a massive missile strike(one of the biggest yet from Russia) is something very new for any country, I stand to be corrected.

So can the F16 continue on performing Air Defense role?

I think you're right. Maybe there's no coordination, not to launch SAM while Ukraine fighters are in the air. Or the areas of engagement overlapped causing friendly fire. While the F-16 is busy chasing down the missiles and drones, it may not have realize a missile was approaching it until too late. Just my speculation.

IFF should have been working. I've worked with very old IFF before. It used 2 different frequencies, one to interrogate and one to respond with a code. If the code received is correct, it is then regarded as a friend.

He is still alive and he is not captured.

So he hasn't engaged in any battle.

MEARSHEIMER: THE KURSK OFFENSIVE IS A FOOLISH MOVE

"Ukraine’s invasion (of Kursk) was a major strategic blunder, which will accelerate its defeat. The key determinant of success in a war of attrition is the casualty-exchange ratio, not capturing territory, which Western commentators obsess over.

"The casualty-exchange ratio in the Kursk offensive decisively favors Russia for two reasons. First, it has caused relatively few Russian casualties because Ukraine’s army effectively overran undefended territory. Second, once alerted to the attack, Moscow quickly brought massive airpower to bear against the advancing Ukrainian troops, who were in the open and easy to strike. Unsurprisingly, the attacking forces lost many soldiers and a huge proportion of their equipment.

"To make matters worse, Kyiv removed top-notch combat units from the front lines in eastern Ukraine — where they are desperately needed — and made them part of the Kursk strike force. This move is tilting the already lopsided casualty-exchange ratio on that critically important front further in Russia’s favor. It is no wonder — given what a foolish idea the Kursk incursion is — that the Russians were caught by surprise."
