President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has unexpectedly given rise to a Ukrainian intervention across the border into Russia, to the evident embarrassment of the Kremlin leader.

The incursion by as many as 1,000 Ukrainian troops into the Kursk region that’s now in its third day caught out the Russian military. It’s the first time since World War II that another country’s army has invaded Russia.

A grim-faced Putin summoned his army and security-service chiefs for an explanation yesterday. Furious Russian military bloggers accused top officials of staggering incompetence.

European gas prices rose amid reports of fighting near a key Russian station on the last remaining pipeline route to Europe via Ukraine. So far, gas continues to flow.

Russia Says It’s Battling a Ukrainian Incursion in the Kursk Region

Ukraine has said nothing about the mission or its goals. Theories abound, from an attempt to seize territory as a potential bargaining chip in future negotiations with Moscow, to a diversionary tactic to ease pressure on stretched defenses in Ukraine by drawing Russian forces away from the frontline.

The White House said it would seek a “better understanding” from Kyiv, adding that Ukraine hasn’t breached US rules on its use of American-supplied weapons inside Russia.

The episode exposed the fragility of Russian border defenses with growing numbers of its soldiers fighting in Ukraine. It has boosted Ukrainian morale.

And it has also punctured the Kremlin’s carefully constructed image of Putin as the protector of ordinary Russians.

Instead, the war he started in Ukraine now spills increasingly into Russia, where people in border regions live under constant risk of shelling and drones strike key industrial facilities.

For Ukraine, it’s likely to bolster Kyiv’s argument that US and European allies shouldn’t fear Kremlin threats of escalation and that it should be allowed to take the fight to Putin in any way it sees fit to hasten an end to the war.

I also think is hard target.  By now, Russia would have strengthened the defense around the NPP.

Do note that Biden and Germany are the among the strongest against Ukraine using western weapons inside Russia, not even legit military target that fire missiles at childre hospital. 

So the below post, I am not too sure of the validity. Anyway it is strange the Biden Administration til now (3rd day) has not say anything against Ukraine incursion in Russia with possible western weapons including USA supplied. They just want to call up Zelensky and understand the situation more..

They supported the war and killings of Ukrainians. Now the chickens has come home to roost.

They deserve it. No one's gonna pity them.

Very much agree that should be how Ukraine conduct their operation from now on.  Previously Ukraine had been making too many announcement of what they are gong to do, like bombing the Crimea bridge, attack on Sevastopol, even the last Summe Offensive. This time round they conduct it differently, not even the Western partners know. Not even USA. Coz I suspect there might have been leaks from USA to Russia on Ukraine operation previously.  SO it best to let Ukraine conduct their operation and not discuss their plan to USA.

Can't help to feel strange, that USA being quite silent on criticizing Ukraine for this operation, coz seems like Ukraine had broken some of USA red lines.  Probably they learn from Israel, just do it coz letting the Biden Administration into the strategic plan, they would only find ways to hinder your plan for fear of further escalation.

More airfield with SU34/35  and ammunition kenna struck. These are the legit military targets that USA refused to let Ukraine to hit with USA weapons, even though they are known to be a huge contributor to the Russian advancement in the eastern frontline. Should be drones attack and also show how useless are the Russian AD that are defending such critical targets.

In the morning a drive thru video of the aftermath. What hit them? Seems like the adjacent houses and road aren't hit?  Multiple FPV drones? Some Russian channels are claiming it's HIMARS, but I doubt so as it seems only the vehicles were hit, with no damages to the surrounding.
