Source: Zelenskyy in his evening video address

Quote: "Ukraine guarantees every Russian soldier who surrenders three things:

  1. you will be treated in a civilised manner, in accordance with all conventions;
  2. no one will know the circumstances of your surrender, no one in Russia will know that your surrender was voluntary;
  3. if you are afraid to return to Russia and do not want an exchange, we will find a way to ensure this as well."

Details: Zelenskyy addressed the Russian people in Russian.

He emphasised that Russian commanders do not care about the lives of Russians - they just need to fill the empty spaces left by the dead, wounded, those who fled or those who were captured. And those spaces can be filled with "either young IT specialists who have not served [in the army] at all, or pensioners who served only in the Soviet army.

So, now is the key moment for all of you: right now it is being decided whether your life will end or not. It is better not to take a conscription letter than to die in a foreign land as a war criminal. It is better to run away from criminal mobilisation than to be crippled and then bear responsibility in the court for participating in the war of aggression. It is better to surrender to Ukrainian captivity than to be killed by the strikes of our weapons, absolutely fair strikes, as Ukraine defends itself in this war," the president emphasised.

He stated again that Ukraine will liberate all of its territories, emphasising that this also applies to Crimea.

Russia was really doing pretty ok before this especially special special military cock-up, as i call it.

But now, shame, dishonor, hardship have been brought to the country and its people simply becos of the haughtiness of one man.

Russia is now continuing by sending its children to meet death and without a valid reason at that!

China should open its eyes wide and learn from this.  To truly win people, you need to win their hearts.

Russia had natural resources China can only dream of.

If they.. putin...  had focused on building his country,  there's no reason for its people to be looting second hand machines and doing for ladas... really a sad story

The funny thing is if he had done this on day 1 of "special military operation" it could easily have struck fear into Ukrainian defenders. Now he does it after they already defeated their special forces and regular army and mercenaries how to be scared... only will take longer to win only

it was wrong after wrong right from the start.

not just that. China should stop the nonsense of using history as a pretext to start war. Please be a normal and civilized country then you can earn the respect of the world.

History is complex.  We are just fortunate to be in a relatively peaceful environment.

Ukraine Situation Report: Multiple Russian Aircraft Shot Down In A Day

The Russian Air Force had another bad day in the skies over Ukraine as Kyiv claims it downed four jets, drones, and a cruise missile.

A day after air defenses had to confront waves of Iranian-supplies suicide drones, Ukraine says it shot down 4 Russian tactical jet aircraft Saturday over the frontlines.

The Ukrainian General Staff claimed troops shot down two Russian Su-30SM Flankers, a Su-25SM Frogfoot, a Su-34 Fullback, five drones, and a cruise missile. Footage showed a Su-34 trailing fire from its right engine over the frontline in Kharkiv Oblast, with a later clip showing a fireball and crash site in the area.

Later videos showed an Su-30SM crashing after being hit by a missile, with two parachutes seen descending nearby. Ukraine's total shootdown claims cannot be independently confirmed at this time, though multiple aircraft do appear to have been shot down.

It isn't clear what has caused this spike in sorties and shoot-downs, but it is possible that pressure for the Russian Air Force to halt Ukraine's progress on the battlefield and complicate its forces' ability to hold recaptured territory has increased. Forward-deployed medium and long-range Ukrainian air defenses mean even high-end tactical jets cannot operate at altitude, which pushes them down into the MANPADS envelope. We see the results of that reality today.

Drones are a growing concern. Russian forces sent waves of Iranian drones against targets far from the frontlines on September 23. Losses like Saturday’s and throughout the war in Ukraine are exactly why Russia wanted the Iranian drones in the first place.

Drones can be expendable and cost-effective. Jets, helicopters, and pilots are not. This is especially true for striking into the western areas of Ukraine where Russian airpower cannot operate without extreme risk. Using drones for smaller targets beyond the front lines instead of standoff land attack cruise and ballistic missiles, which are very costly and in dwindling supply, opens up a whole new set of tactics and access to targets for Russia. Suicide drones can also sniff-out Ukrainian air defense radars and attack them over great ranges, which could impact Ukraine's ability to deny Russian airpower access beyond the front lines. Even if shot down, they consume Ukraine's precious surface-to-air missile stockpile. We wrote about Iran's drones' appearance in Ukraine and recent use, which you can read about here.

Kyiv isn’t taking too kindly to Iran supplying the drones, however. Ukraine has not only condemned the drone supplies, but further stripped the Iranian ambassador’s title and reached out to Israel for any intelligence it can provide on Tehran.

SIZE MATTERS: THE SNIPEX ALLIGATOR IS UKRAINE’S ANTI-EVERYTHING RIFLE

Adopted by Ukrainian forces in 2020, the Snipex Alligator is a Ukrainian anti-materiel rifle capable of destroying fortified positions, vehicles, aircraft, and probably dinosaurs.

This 6-1/2-foot, 55-pound behemoth was not designed to be used as an anti-personnel rifle, but it would most likely anti-the-ever-living-f**k out of any personnel it hit. Even Superman.

Speaking of the round, the 14.5mm x 114mm cartridge fired by the Alligator is a veritable beast of a bullet that was initially designed as an anti-tank round for World War II-era Soviet weapons. The 59- to 66-gram projectile is capable of traveling at nearly 3,300 feet per second and makes more common big boy rounds like the .50 and 12.7 look unimpressive by comparison. In other words, if you’re a .50-cal, the 14.5 is the guy your girlfriend tells you not to worry about.

The Alligator can accommodate various sight devices and features a floating barrel for increased accuracy, a purpose-built muzzle brake to reduce the immense recoil, a cushioned shoulder pad that probably doesn’t help, and a five-round detachable box mag. This anti-everything rifle boasts the ability to accurately reach out and touch targets at distances of up to 2,000 meters (that’s almost 22 football fields, for all my fellow Americans who don’t know shit about the metric system) and can pierce 10mm (the socket wrench you always lose) armor plating from about a mile out.

Alongside the formidable Alligator, the Ukrainian army also adopted its slightly smaller little brother, the T-Rex, which is essentially the same rifle, just in the type of single-shot bullpup configuration that Europeans love so much. It is unclear at this time how many T-Rexes and Alligators are in service in the Ukraine military, but personally, we think one of each would be enough, all things considered. Both rifles have seen use on the battlefield since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and considering the sheer power and terrifying capabilities of these weapon systems, we can see why the Russians have been getting their asses kicked.
