So at some point in the future, if Malaysia moves to bring Singapore back into the Federation more than 50 years after we went our own way and built our own existence, either through covert or military means, what would your position be?

Even within the Soviet Republics, the Ukraine was always its own entity however much aligned ideologically. When the USSR dissolved, national boundaries naturally formed based on borders of governance. 
 

The fact that Ukraine was militarily and geographically significant should have been cause for Russia to have continued keeping it under its influence like Belarus, yet it allowed the West to come and seduce it.

There’s no lasting friends or enemies, just shared mutual interests… the Americans and the British went to war against each other, just as the British and French did as well

if malaysia wants sgp to rejoin the federation by military means, it is obvious what will happen. by covert means i guess common folks like us would not figure it out until it is past done. in that future, i dont know what the sg gahmen of the day would be or its intention. if by other means such as it was by referendum in 1962, then thats probably the way. but then again, i think we should recall how the referendum to join the federation was. there was no choice in objecting to the merger.

ukraines history, dates back a long time and its evolution and boundaries have changed a lot. wars, emigration, whether the ruling empire want to draw lines here and there.. got no end when want to pick on this. but for modern ukraine, probably start at the dissolution of ussr.

if russia was capable to keep ukraine under its influence, it would. but ukraine in ww2 half fought for ussr and half fought for germany. so there are already fault lines. anyway you let other republics go independent like Kazakh, georgia, uzbek, tajik etc and then dont let ukraine go independent.. cannot mah.

dude - Don't try too hard stretching Sham's story in parliament about Russia's "invasion" lah.   You see, I may be "too young" in 2003....but I do know in that year a superpower,  without UN mandate nor International Law,  invaded a 3rd world country. And yet SG gov supported the invasion and even sent SAF to get involved. Long story short, that invasion based on lies, turn out to haunt us in the coming years...  😜

 Strangely, you express similar mindset as the Anglo-Saxon- Why not turn a region which is culturally similar into nation vs nation crisis?  The fun fact however, the none of the countries in Eastern Europe are interested in "invading" one another since many share same Slavic root and largely practice Orthodox Christianity...

In any case, you seems to forget the origin of the crisis isn't about Ukrainian vs Russians but rather the concerns NATO's expansion and deployment of US missiles next to Russia since end of the last Cold War.. Try deploying Russians missiles in Mexico and Cuba, see how the US gov will react.  😜
