Tribecar acquires fellow car-sharing operator Car Club to expand fleet to over 1,400 vehicles

Tribecar has just announced the acquisition of Car Club. According to them, this is the biggest buyout ever in the local car-sharing scene.

Established in 1997 by NTUC Income, Car Club was one of Singapore's first car-sharing operators. In 2016, it was acquired by a Japanese company, Mitsui & Co. Ltd, which later entered a joint venture with another Japanese company, Willers.

Terms and details of the acquisition were not revealed.

Adrian Lee, Co-Founder of Tribecar, said:

Lewis Chen, General Manager of Car Club, had this to say:

Moving on, Tribecar said that members of Tribecar and Car Club will get to enjoy services and features that are currently offered exclusively on platforms. They did not mention specifics but said that it would include various subscription plans and corporate programmes.

But perhaps more importantly, members will get access to a larger fleet of vehicles and at more locations. Combined, Tribecar and Car Club will have a fleet of over 1,400 vehicles.

Tribecar said members will get to enjoy a greater range of premium luxury car options and a wider range of vehicle types such as motorcycles, vans, and lorries, that can be booked via hour bookings or even through monthly subscriptions and leasing plans.

Car club is older, but in term of market expansion, tribecar move faster than them. They have bikes and they have more collection and pick up points.

You have more cars, but you cannot fully maximise it, the car sitting at the car park is not making any money man.

Tribecar do leisure renting and also commercial renting for grab driver to earn some incomes, they have really maximise their inventory to the max.

Tribecar stickers and decals look terrible on their cars, so inelegant😅 But I guess no choice liao..😅

Thought car club is bigger? Remember last time they are the biggest car sharing in the market, got many locations and their cars quite new and maintain quite well.

Those decals.. i think half is for publicity sake, the other half for customers to locate the car more easily.

So if you member of both what's gonna happen to your membership fee? Combine ah? Got refund?

I signed up for CarClub but never try the service before. Their system looks so leceh and they not the cheapest too.

I used Tribecar occasionally but they didn't have a mobile app until just recently (last two months), so very troublesome also.
