scientist theory is the virus will mutate until “non severe” and just another flu that exist for years

like that why not let AIDS mutate until no scare? [sly]

How to be "non severe"? People forget that ordinary flu kills a lot of people every year too.

Like it or not, a lot of us are or will probably be exposed to the virus, thus gaining this super immunity.

There is so much social interactions, the malls and restaurants are all full and the daily Covid numbers (symptomatic infections) are down?  The asymptomatic cases are probably in the thousands given we are more than 90% vaccinated.

IMHO and my non-expert view, this is probably what's happening here now. Daily exposure to trace amounts of virus everywhere so our immune system is "trained". Of course the weaker ones will still show symptoms, but mild, go clinic, get tested, discover positive.

The rest of us carry on, and now No Test = No Case applies to most of us.

Yup, going endemic.

I got the booster so I got hyper immunity?

:D

On the contrary those double vaccinated may get super-immunity when they catch omicron.

People who fall ill with Covid while double-vaccinated may get ‘super-immunity’, researchers say

People who catch Covid after having two vaccine doses could develop even better immunity against the virus, new research suggests.

A study that examined the blood of 26 people who had so-called breakthrough infections of Covid after double vaccination developed as much as 1,000 per cent more effective and abundant antibodies, creating a form of “super-immunity”, researchers said.

Although coronavirus vaccines are very effective at preventing severe cases of Covid or death, it is not uncommon for those who are double-jabbed to still catch the virus – especially more transmissible variants such as Delta or Omicron – and develop mild symptoms.

But when researchers at the Oregon Health & Science University studied the blood of some of their colleagues who had recovered from mild Covid cases despite being fully vaccinated, they found their immune systems were significantly better primed to defeat the disease.

“You can’t get a better immune response than this,” said the study’s senior author, Fikadu Tafesse, an assistant professor of molecular microbiology and immunology in the university’s School of Medicine.

“These vaccines are very effective against severe disease. Our study suggests that individuals who are vaccinated and then exposed to a breakthrough infection have super-immunity.”

Antibodies in the blood of the study’s participants were both higher in number and much more effective – sometimes as much as 1,000 per cent – than the antibodies generated two weeks after the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

The scientists believe any exposure to the virus after vaccination serves to strengthen the immune response, even to newer variants.

“I think this speaks to an eventual end game,” said Marcel Curlin, an associate professor of medicine at the School of Medicine.

“It doesn’t mean we’re at the end of the pandemic, but it points to where we’re likely to land: once you’re vaccinated and then exposed to the virus, you’re probably going to be reasonably well protected from future variants.

“Our study implies that the long-term outcome is going to be a tapering-off of the severity of the worldwide epidemic.”

The scientists did not test against the new Omicron variant, and early studies have suggested two doses alone of vaccines such as Pfizer, Astra-Zeneca or Moderna do not provide nearly as good protection as they did against Delta.

However, the scientists emphasised a baseline of immunity from vaccination was still an essential part of protecting yourself against coronavirus, and people could not simply rely on a previous infection.

“The key is to get vaccinated,” Prof Curlin said. “You’ve got to have a foundation of protection.”

What are they saying?

Too many comers to understand!

Two shots of Pfizer to people that already had 2 shots of Sinovac

or people that had only 2 shots of Pfizer also needs a booster?

:D

Two doses of the BioNTech shot, known as Comirnaty, was also insufficient, though adding a booster with the more potent mRNA vaccine raised protection to adequate levels, the researchers said in a statement.

If want to kenna covid for hybrid immunity. Choose omicron.. it's milder, and gives super immunity to coronavirus.🤣.

No thank you.

I don't want to get any Covid virus.

What China needs to do is new Sinovac.

Take the Omicron rambutan and remove the seed and flesh

and inject that as the booster.

We all know that new Sinovac can be made very very fast.

:D

Problem solved!

People busy saying your vaccine no good, mine is good.

Yous cannot handle Omicron mine can.

Instead of making Omicron Pfizer and Moderna and Sinovac.

So Omicron could push out Delta, and since it cause milder symptoms, this could be the end of the pandemic...? And we must thank Omicron for doing the job. [laugh]

South Africa study suggests Omicron could displace Delta

Dec 28 (Reuters) - Research by South African scientists suggests that Omicron could displace the Delta variant of the coronavirus because infection with the new variant boosts immunity to the older one.

The study only covered a small group of people and has not been peer-reviewed, but it found that people who were infected with Omicron, especially those who were vaccinated, developed enhanced immunity to the Delta variant.

The analysis enrolled 33 vaccinated and unvaccinated people who were infected with the Omicron variant in South Africa.

While the authors found that neutralisation of Omicron increased 14-fold over 14 days after the enrolment, they also found that there was a 4.4-fold increase in neutralisation of the Delta variant.

"The increase in Delta variant neutralization in individuals infected with Omicron may result in decreased ability of Delta to re-infect those individuals," the scientists who conducted the study said.

The results of the study are "consistent with Omicron displacing the Delta variant, since it can elicit immunity which neutralizes Delta making re-infection with Delta less likely," they said.

According to the scientists, implications of this displacement would depend on whether or not Omicron is less pathogenic compared to Delta. "If so, then the incidence of COVID-19 severe disease would be reduced and the infection may shift to become less disruptive to individuals and society."

Alex Sigal, a professor at the Africa Health Research Institute in South Africa, said on Twitter on Monday that if Omicron was less pathogenic as it looked to be from the South African experience, "this will help push Delta out".

According to an earlier South African study, there is reduced risk of hospitalisation and severe disease in people infected with Omicron compared with the Delta variant, though the authors say some of that is likely due to high population immunity. read more

The Omicron variant, first detected in southern Africa and Hong Kong in November, has since spread worldwide and threatened to overwhelm hospitals in some countries.

Those unvaxxed think they can just pop in for monoclonal antibodies are in for a surprise. Out of stock !

Luckily for them, now there's 2 approved anti-viral pills, if they can get it.

Texas runs out of monoclonal antibody treatment to fight omicron variant of COVID-19

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas state health department has run out of a key treatment to fight the omicron COVID-19 variant, which now makes up 90% of the virus cases in the state.

On Monday, the Texas Department of State Health Services announced that its regional infusion centers in Austin, El Paso, Fort Worth, San Antonio and The Woodlands have run out of the monoclonal antibody sotrovimab.

That antibody has been shown to be effective against the omicron variant. Other monoclonal antibodies have not been shown to be effective against omicron.

The state does not expect to receive another shipment of sotrovimab from the federal government until January.

People who had an appointment scheduled at regional infusion centers for this treatment will be alerted. People who have been diagnosed with a non-omicron variant can receive other monoclonal antibody treatments at the regional infusion centers.

Last week the Food and Drug Administration gave emergency use authorization for two new oral antiviral drugs, the Pfizer COVID-19 pill and the Merck COVID-19 pill. The state expects that those will be available soon but in a limited supply from the federal government.

Without these three early response treatments to COVID-19 available, the state is recommending that people take precautions against getting COVID-19, including getting a booster shot as soon as possible. Wearing a mask, avoiding gatherings, social distancing and hand washing are also recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
