How to hold the kid with arms as seat belt? Don’t live to regret. Arms as seat belts do not work. Don’t say last time. Last time everyone’s speed was slower and largely less aggressive behavior on the roads.
Of course in the end it’s your call. Safety or just chance it telling yourself that “won’t one la”

same with lazy ass backseat passengers who don’t belt up. They get what they deserve should an accident happen. No pity from me.

Yup definitely not safe / legal! Will probably have to stick to 5 pax (leave the helper behind) in the meantime

If you're getting ready to fit child seat for your kids, 7 seater is the way to go. Bring everyone along for test drives. Get feedback from everyone until you find the best fit. Don't forget to enjoy the process. Treat it like a family outing. Take lots of photos. You'll treasure them in your old age.  😁

Thanks for the advice! 😁

Hi everyone, was wondering if there are any of you here with 3 kids and a helper and if so, what's the car that you drive? Currently have 2 kids and 1 more on the way.

Do you guys find yourselves having to ferry your partner+3 kids+helper very often? I am driving a 5 seater and wondering if it is really necessary to change to a 7 seater...

Thanks!

Wife,  3 kids plus a helper, full size MPV is the best. Consider new  odyssey or Sharan,  include  estima if you do not mind used . Forget about sienta or other small size MPV, you will face constraints from seating comfort to cargo  space. Some may suggest large SUv but to get in and out from the 3rd row of a large SUV is not as easy as compare to a full size  MPV. Go try it out to see if your family like it, depends on their preference.

You can try a used Estimate,  Sharan, odyssey, sell it off if you do not like it, you won't lose much .

i have friends with 4 and 5 kids so have seen how people manage it.

it seems you are not sure if u will need to ferry all 5 passengers often?

The thing abt changing to a big MPV/SUV that can take 7 pax is the driver might still be driving alone most of the time. And the 7 seater usually has terrible FC but that is a serious concern only if you clock high mileage regularly, so it depends on your transport needs too. For example if u stay in Pasir Ris, work in Tuas and wife is a homemaker then you'll be driving long distances in a gas-guzzler alone most of the time.

Can your wife drive? If so, consider getting a 2nd normal sized car then you can use one car most of the time and then drive 2 cars out when the situation necessitates it. If not keen to buy a 2nd car as it will be rarely used, you may consider making use of the car sharing companies to augment your transport needs when necessary. However it will mean that the two drivers will not be able to baby sit the kids while driving. So it also depends on how old the kids are. Helper will have to be in the car with the kids that need the most attention. Or else, use Grab when necessary 😃

other cars to consider:

kia sorento, hyundai palisade or santa fe, toyota alphard

not sure if hyundai is bringing in the Staria

an uncommon option is the mercedes vito in passenger car guise

Well said. Just book a mpv cab if really all need to go out together. The 3rd kid is only on the way, will be many many more months before he/she can enjoy family outings. By then maybe COE drops to 40k and more choices will be affordable.

Thanks guys, these are very sensible suggestions. I am also of the view that the additional seats may end up being underutilized and just for the occasional convenience...Will take the advice of just seeing how things go and adapt accordingly

I drove full size MPV for 15 years when my cildren were a lot yonger . It is a no regrets decision.  But when drivng a MPV, no need to think about fuel consumption, average 8km/L to less than 10kmL. Dont forget, it is not a net 8km/L increase, compare with a 2L sedan, it is only maybe 1 to 2km/L incremental, dont be scared by the FC.

most important question is

-whats the budget

-size of your family, is it chubby or tall side?

- new or used

but some good family carrier is odyssey, estima, biante, sharan. If you want style, probably better safety and compromise some space then it will be cx9, sorento, palisade

Porky?   That one is worse, but i sold that in 2017, so wasnt talking about that.  Thats a 2+2 seater.

8km /l can fetch 7 people is nothing scary at all.

Got any car that fits 3 wives? 🤣

No!

Buy 3 houses and 3 cars.

Period.

Or

Go rental company.

Rent 3 places and 3 cars.

If you come out and play....

Don't create issues...

"you gotta keep them separated"
