Actually from the video I was not expecting that the dislodged wheel and tyre (supposedly lying flat on the road) to be kicked up so high when it was ran over by the white car.

TBH, I wasn't even expecting the Forester to be able to drive over it 😂

I speculate that the Forester driver was taking his chance to drive over the dislodged tyre.

I think he/she had very little room for evasion; if he/she swerved left, he/she would have side-swiped the blue car and he/she swerved right then the Forester might crash against the road barrier. ://

So the Forester driver might be just hoping the car would ride over the tyre given the momentum; but he/she wouldn't know what would be the aftermath.

The Forester driver was certainly taking his chances and hoping for the best outcome for himself. Little did he know.....

Actually I had the same problem once. Some rubber thing flew off the back of a small pickup truck and it was rolling across from land 3 to lane 1 (I was on the fast lane). There is really no way to stop in time and I hit it really hard. My number plate partially dropped and my bumper had a deep ding where the paintwork chipped.

I have asked around, technically you can claim but its via your own lawyer, The effort for that $200 fix is not really worth it. Really have to suck it up and just fix it yourself.

I'm actually impressed that the forester can run over it (-__- to the suspension)

I have fond memories of my uncle's pick-up when I was a primary school kid and sometimes he would gave my cousins and I a ripe home from school.

That was in the 80s and the vehicle was a blue Datsun pick-up with flat cargo bed type. Had quite a hard time climbing up onto the bed when we are so little. :D

Wah!!! 40 50 years ago when you got a Datsun pickup truck very satki Liao

Happen to me on West Coast Highway.  A lorry in front kicked up an object and sent it spinning furiously towards me.

At first I though its cardboard box but turns out a sizeable piece of wood (at least 60cm length).

Fortunately the trajectory did not reach the windscreen. But I had a gaping hole and crack in the front bumper.  And luckily my tyres did not go over too.

Yeah, I did not know how else to react apart from adjusting my vehicular speed.

That's because my uncle was a stall holder selling pork in a wet market!:D
He needed the pick-up to transport those meat which I don't know he got from where...
Imagine that sometimes we sat with packs of meat cut out from corpses of pigs.:D

Some transportation vehicles the drivers and workers don't bother to secure some of the load properly. ://

And some tipper trucks they carried those rocks and gravel so overfilled that several times some small pieces got dislodged by the wind and hit and cracked onto my vehicle windscreens.  And those circumstances my vehicle was already quite some buffer distance from those trucks. :/

Hmmm ...... pick up??  ...... rubbers??? ...... must be @Mustank  ....... His pigup has lotsa spent rubbers flying around from it 🤣🤣.......... OK back to topic

If the tyre can just fly off (assuming its the spare one at the back) which are sometimes held by cable or brackets ....... then it should fall under negligence of the truck owner to not have checked for a flimsy tyre being well secured...... its as bad as cargo (as in debris)  not covered by a tarpaulin

I think many here have had cars hit by tree branches (small ones) or fruits leaving a small scratch or ding at times also on bonnet..... Ive expereinced it and insurer said to contact NParks but they said its a long shot (no chance) and back then did not have camera in car too

Sucks to hear that...Lucky the damage was not substantial. If the damage incurred a much higher cost sure have to claim already.

Yes, ikr. Perks of driving an SUV maybe?😂 But I am not surprised if something underneath the Forester dislodges or becomes loose.

I am curious. What did you do after the incident? Did you fork out money from your own pocket, claim your own insurance or did you claim from the lorry for the repair cost?

Yes, I can relate to that - I have seen many tipper trucks that were filled to the brim, with whatever they were carrying. I always make it a point to avoid these heavy vehicles, whenever possible.

To be fair, sometimes these owners feel that they have already secured it to the best of their ability. Only to find out that it wasn't secured well enough upon realising the tyre flew off😂

IMO, the best solution is to have any spare tyre stored within the vehicle (whenever possible), especially for commercial vehicles. If no space, also make space to store the spare tyre inside.

Ownself go garage ask mechanic help seal and touch up. For me not worth the hassle to go around as I feel its like wasting time and stressful, somemore not the fault of the other vehicle. Not that I am rich 😬 i am just thankful nothing more sinister happened.

It's a double-edged sword, if the suv ran over the wheel/tyre at a wrong angle, then the car might flip instead.
