IMHO it cannot be that people are so dumb as not to see a good deal. If opel is so good why is it not more popular.
I’m not talking about just Singapore. But Malaysia Thailand Indonesia? They surely have many more vehicles than us.
somehow the economics just don’t work out.

Been on my second Opel since 2016. No issues to me at all so that’s important to me.

For the price i paid, it has a lot more tech and faster (8.7s 0-100) than similiarly priced cars. So hey I’m happy 😄

I am truly amazed people can talk utter BS with a straight face here.

Every time I say I am doing in my MIL I have to do it with a big smile on my face.

I really cannot say it with a straight face!

:D

We have a family car Opel Astra 1.0 (2017) bought second hand 2 years ago. It has proven to be a fun and nippy car to drive. This far other than routine engine oil change and other wear and tear items such as headlight bulb and transmission mount it has proven to be relatively reliable and low cost in terms of road tax and consumption. But I have the say some parts are costly though. For example the transmission mount plus labor is $230 incl GST. U do your sums bro.

Hi bro, Opel Astra you mean Engine Mount is it ? You changed 1 pc or 2 pc? Astra this 3 cylinder is well known for the Engine vibrations until driver door when you open it - you can see the door "dancing" !!! Best is change the left and right side engine mount. 1 more thing - it uses lots more brake pads and brake discs... like 40K - 45K mileage needs to change. For me at least - but could be due to my usage which is more to City driving.

And yes the saving grace is low Road Tax!

Early batches of Astra 1.0, like mine from 2016 had no vibrations at all because it had a balancer shaft.

Heard newer batches had it removed hence the vibrations.

Yes changed both. Left and right side. Yes vibration is bad but I have learnt to accept it. No issue at all.

Nope, sold off a couple of years ago and moved on to another Opel which is serving me well too.

Your Astra should be the newer batch with the silver unlock buttons on the door handles right?

Those with black unlock buttons on the door handles like mine previously should be the good older batch with balancer shaft.

$230 only for transmission mount. The other side was changed under warranty by AD. Somehow they refused to change both sides for me. If u ask me 5 years ago if the vibration bothers me,I will give you the most affirmative answer. But now to be honest I wouldn't care too much and if car serves me well I will be satisfied liao.

When I brought up the issue of engine mounting with them (it was still within warranty period) but because they have no spare parts I had to wait. So much so that the warranty was over after the waiting but when I brought the car down they honoured it even though it's only one side (engine mounting). The other side is transmission mount (which I paid at a AMK workshop). Yeah vibration is frustrating but with new engine mounts it has improved but not perfect. I sat in my friends Vios and Honda City I could feel vibration at front passenger seat too. But not as bad as the Astra of course.

In a way I am glad there r still few people in Singapore that appreciate Opel cars. Of course I have to admit if I have the moolah like certain bros here in this forum I might have gotten another mainstream car like a Camry or Civic. The current inflated prices make it pretty tough to justify the financial outlay IMO.

More often than not, maintenance might be a pita (parts and etc) so if you're looking at cost savings you're looking at the wrong place.

Buy left field because you like it (like me), not because of the sole reason of saving.

You'll enjoy it, like I do.

Hi bro. I think you are right. Cost savings is secondary. Likely a Jazz cost less to run and maintain. I do like it. Drives well and feels solid. The equipment levels are decent for a 1.0L car. I am enjoying the car. Been more than 2 years. Cheers
