The police said they were called at about 8.45pm and found the injured teen next to the fallen structure near Block 18 Bedok South Road. "A 17-year-old male teenager was unconscious when conveyed to the hospital, where he subsequently died from his injuries," the police told ST on Tuesday. They are investigating the case of unnatural death. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were also called and they took the boy to Changi General Hospital (CGH). Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was conducted on him while he was being taken to CGH, said SCDF. How did the F this happen? Stratovarius Turbocharged July 27, 2021 Share July 27, 2021 From the pic, seems that the legs of bb structure is cast into the concrete? Somehow it came off. Good old anchor bolts are still better. Easier to inspect also.
Chongster 6th Gear July 27, 2021 Share July 27, 2021 Apart from the fact that people can die if heavy things drop on them, I don’t think there’s anything else to concluse from this incident. Sad. 2

So this structure should have been designed for it in the first place. the rims with springs for slam dunks are more expensive, so they are mostly installed in indoor courts or those places with better facilities for public courts and CC, most installation are the basic basketball frames and rims anyway most people can't dunk, and you are not supposed to hang onto the rims (cos dangerous and may damage the rims)

Good old anchor bolts are still better. Easier to inspect also. It looks like it used bolts and nothing sunken. There were a few more cases if HDB shelters collapsing as well, as the design probably did not take into consideration lateral wind loading. Similarly look at the street name signs - half are slanting even when new. Whereas the old white ones were all straight till the day they were replaced. I never like such designs (and shoddy constructions/no supervision), better to have at least 5 feet of the structure encased inside the concrete.

Poor Design, workmanship, cheap material, and most importantly, lack of supervision by the authorities. All sit in office. ↡ Advertisement 6
