Don't think i'll ever consider the FD2R given my budget but yes, i've heard of it's track-focused aspects. Thanks for the heads up though, cheers!

Hi all, i have a similar question as OP as well. Can't create a new topic as i'm new to this forum, apologies. Thinking of buying my first car, budget around 30-40k and looking for manual cars preferably. With these 2 criteria in mind, i have shortlisted 2 cars - 2009 Honda Civic 1.8M and Subaru Impreza/STI (more out of budget).

1. For my first car, should i go for one with renewable COE (so that i can still sell next time) or just try try for 2-3 years and then scrape?

2. Any other manual cars available you guys would recommend? Quite hard to find manual cars nowadays...

Any help would be much appreciated, cheers!

I'm looking more towards the normal impreza due to a lower price point but really don't like the looks of it as compared to the civic 1.8M. Would you recommend getting a COE civic 1.8M personally? Even though there's no renewable value. Personally, i don't mind the modifications, i'm more worried about condition of the car. Understand that the civic community is quite big and has a somewhat bad reputation for being an "ah beng" car, just hope that the car isn't used and abused.

Forget about NA Impreza - bad low end torque + heavy chassis = constant struggle to accelerate from low speed and also lousy fuel consumption. You'll be much happier with civic if that's your only other choice.

CL7 Euro R manual. Top of my list.

Yes, reliable work horse. Get a stock one will do, at most changes to suspension setup. Then go tune abit will do.

Can get 11 to 13km/l, considerably better than the normal civics 😬

Inside big and cozy, and the engine droning can be intoxicating.

But now these rare hondas price is steep.

Now a bit hard to compare, cause manuals are so rare in SG, but are manuals more reliable than auto cars ah from your own experience?

Expand

If both are stock then both are as reliable (Honda Civic 1.7A/1.8M VTi-S, Toyota Vios/MRS/86, Mazda MX-5)

Most probably cannot find a stock CL7R by now. With $12k dep, the options are aplenty.

Yeah am aware about the low end torque but was not so sure about the acceleration. Thanks for the clarification! Looks like my best bet is a civic but most of the civics out in the market have multiple owners so not sure about their condition.

For my first car, would it be better if i get one with non-renewable coe (meaning scrap by end of 2/3 years) or a renewable one (means still can sell/trade in next time)? Or does it not make a significant difference in terms of money/effort?

Lol. After I saw the topic title, I would say Real Man drives responsibly regardless of car model or manual/auto.

Unlike those wannabes and arrogant drivers that we see everyday.

Depends on depth of pocket and luck (not getting a lemon car), if you still prefer to go manual.

For first daily driven car, I recommend Altis, Camry, Mazda 3, Honda Fit (and many other choices) with a few years left.
