Albeniz Turbocharged December 25, 2022 Share December 25, 2022 (edited) Hey Folks, Borrow this thread to ask some noob questions, as I am totally new to Grab (both locally and in Malaysia). I intend to go to Tebrau IKEA/AEON. Will be going in by bus 170 and then take a teksi to Tebrau IKEA tomorrow morning. After the shopping, I will try to take Grab from Tebrau IKEA to hotel (still haven't decided on the hotel yet). I have almost never used Grab before in Singapore. I recently downloaded the Grab App. Could this App (downloaded in Sgp) be used for travel while I am in Malaysia? Anything to take note? Many thanks folks. The last time I use Grab Sg in Malaysia was 2020. Make sure your credit card details is added. Otherwise, you will have problem placing order. For taxi from JB central, there is a counter to buy ticket. I think it is around taxi line.

Many thanks for the quick reply. For the grab ride, do you pay cash in Ringgit to the driver at the end of trip, or was it paid through the credit card? Wifey used her grab app while we were in Malacca. We choose cash as we need to empty all those loose change before heading back to Singapore. Infact wifey find the grab app more user friendly there than in Singapore. Lesser high rise buildings much easier for pick up points. One thing to note. From our service apartment to jonker it costs RM15(evening) however from jonker back to apartment it was RM35. The price varies even though about the same travel distance. Albeniz Turbocharged December 29, 2022 Share December 29, 2022 (edited) Thanks folks for the information, I just made a 3D2N trip to Johor (covering City Square, KSL, MidValley and Tebrau). To escape the heavy car traffic jam, I took bus 170x early in the morning, followed by teksi and grabs. I started off with the red teksi point near the bus terminal at custom, to Tebrau ikea (fare was~RM30.50) And then traveled from IKEA to New York Hotel (near KSL area) by Grab and fare was RM23. For shorter distance travel, the Grab fare could be somewhere between RM5 to RM9. Helpful if it is raining and one has no umbrella. Some points to note though: 1. The red teksi are usually in quite bad shape and are driven by Ah peks without GPS onboard. Communication may be a problem and they may not be familiar with the exact hotel location. 2. I prefer to take the Grabs, as the car conditions are better. They are punctual and have no ambiguity about the pickup points and destinations. The drivers could converse in Mandarin or English. 3. My Grab App default setting is payment by credit card and doesn't quite allow me to pay by cash. If I want to pay by cash, I would get the hotel staff to book for me. To avoid the heavy human jam from JB back to SGP, I took 170x and came back at around ~12pm to 2pm (taking reference from the traffic congestion chart). This is the time where everyone is enjoying themselves or going into JB, and no one wants to come back to SG yet.
