Why lucky? I thought most ppl here drive? Why would they take grab ride?

Shouldnt the lucky one be the driver driving the cars? Or should I say not so lucky? Such a nice ride to be used as phv 😞  This should be the title, with a sad face emoticon.

Are ppl paying extra for these rides? If no, then it is very sad.

This was an interesting story and very ironic as well

I bought a 2nd hand Mazda 6 and was scheduled to collect the car at the dealer. I stay at Bukit Batok and the dealer is located at Tampines North Drive 1 (T-Space). I booked a JustGrab to collect a car and was surprised that I got myself an S-Class.

Yes you didn't see wrongly, it was a mercedes-benz S-Class. I remembered paying $23 for my ride. I wanted to ask the driver why would be use an S-class for Justgrab when the petrol is totally not worth it. However, he was on the phone for the whole journey and I couldn't ask him the question.

This was the most memorable ride as it was super ironic taking an S-Class to collect my 2nd hand Mazda 6 (I also forgotten my favourite umbrella in the car). *You should have seen the face of the dealer when I exited the car* 🤣

It is happened recently? Could be now due to covid period, even those luxury PHV cars which only used in Grabcar Premium now have no business, so they also accept JustGrab?! Earned that $23 rather than $0. Lol.

Yeah, it was during covid period back in Nov 2020. Times have really fallen hard for the drivers. $23 to drive that long distance + FC from a 3l engine. No really worth it.

From my perspective, the ride was superb, I gave him a 5 star rating for that ride. Sad that I forgot to take my fav umbrella which was a huge golf umbrella I used to put in my previous ride.

Ya, times are hard, guess the driver rather idle his car at the carpark, might as well take up a $23 ride.

Wow lucky you! The dealer must have thought you had some VIP Chaffeur.

Agree that FC for 3L engine will not be economical, but still better than leaving it in the carpark.

Bukit Batok to T-space about 30km ..

30km over 7.5km/l (FC) = 4L petrol

4L petrol x $2.50/L (minus some Grab discounts 20%) = $8 petrol cost

Not earning much but ain't too bad.

haha may have to double petrol cost because he may not get another ride on the way back and he would then have to return without getting paid ..

I hate to shit in the pool for all you guys who are "envious" (?) of these rides... The harsh truth is that these are "most likely" those who have the budget to buy a car, buy don't have the budget to maintain the car - hence need to offset it with the using the car for private hire.

有钱买车,没钱养车 is the Chinese saying.

Because there's nothing fuel-economical about these rides and the margin is only that little bit, especially when few take Premium rides and these guys are forced to take Normal rides to scrape together the income for the day.

I think the driver and the car could be for limousine services. A lot of Mercs (E-Class and S-Class), Alphard and Vellfire are used for limousine services. So not just Grab and Uber (in the past) has the decal. Even cars for limousine services company need to have such a decal.

Now due to border control, there are not much tourists or corporate customers coming to Singapore, most of these cars will be sitting idle so at least do some Grab here and there can help cover a bit of cost.

It could be, but there's a lot of tell-tale signs that the car is not for limousine services but a private-car-turned-grab:

- Little trinkets and decos hanging all over the rear mirror and on the front dashboard or rear windscreen

- Child seat mounted in front or rear passenger seat

- Some are even conti MPV/SUVs with a bicycle rack mounted behind!

Personally, I got no problem with normal B&Bs used for Grab - that's what most people do - use the most fuel-efficient car for doing Grab and keep it as a side personal/family car.

But the funny thing as we are discussing in here are those luxury/performance cars used as a PHV... Which is a dead giveaway that the owner is sucking it up.

People should learn to know when to give up their pride and be a bit more humble if they're overleveraging their finances...
