Nousername Neutral Newbie June 13, 2021 Share June 13, 2021 Hi all, a very noob question. My coolant reservoir is running low and I'm not sure which Honda coolant am I using. Can I just add the antifreeze type 2 into the reservoir? If previously my ws is using type 1, can I mix type 1 with type 2? Thank in advance. ↡ Advertisement
kobayashiGT Internal Moderator June 14, 2021 Share June 14, 2021 If I got this correctly, Type 1 is green in colour, it is premixed with water (50/50) Type 2 is blue and it is not premixed with water (100) So cannot mix. Just continue use type 1, why wanna mixed?
Watwheels Supersonic June 14, 2021 Share June 14, 2021 This means there is a leak somewhere. I hope he is going to fix the leak soon. In the mean time use distilled water to top it up first. So no need to use coolant until the issue is fixed. Or the coolant will be wasted away.

Yeah. must get distilled water, Normal water will have mineral, while boiled off, it will leave crystalized residues inside the radiator. https://www.lazada.sg/products/alpheus-distilled-pure-drinking-water-i303028785-s536332638.html?spm=a2o42.lazmart_search.list.13.428b42f0jHxwEf&search=1 Don't your distilled Vodka in ah. Jamesc Hypersonic June 14, 2021 Share June 14, 2021 Check exhaust white colour or not. If white colour means coolant leaking into engine.
Nousername Neutral Newbie June 14, 2021 Author Share June 14, 2021 Thanks all for the reply. I think mine is blue color, so it's type 2 coolant. Ive searched online the type 2 coolant btl wrote 'Do Not Add Water'. So does it mean "do not even add distilled water" or "do not add normal water" ? My low is haven't hit the minimum point. So still can tahan for awhile.
Hamburger Hypersonic June 14, 2021 Share June 14, 2021 Always refill with coolant of same colour. Rule of thumb. Many coolant sold are pre mix, hence it wrote do not mix with water. If coolant level has dropped significantly in recent time, get it check at workshop as topping up serves no purpose in eliminating the issue.

You can use distill water or battery water which you can get it at the petrol kiosk. Just dont use tap water. Anyway the "colour" is just the anti freeze to prevent water from freezing. For our climate I dunno how it will affect our cars. If you buy the concentrated form of antifreeze you will have to use distill water to mix them. So you get the idea coolant are mostly water w/o the minerals in it. The reason why the warning ask you not to add water is because they dont want you to reduce the effects of the antifreeze. We dont have a freezing climate here. Edited June 14, 2021 by Watwheels
Nousername Neutral Newbie June 14, 2021 Author Share June 14, 2021 I see. Thanks much. When I last checked it last year it's in the middle of max and min. When I checked it yesterday it's dropped to somewhere between the mid and min level. Maybe I just add in some distill water and monitor. I can't see any puddle below my car, so I don't think it's leaking anywhere, unless it leak into the engine? Hope can tahan till next servicing on July. ↡ Advertisement
