Racism in Singapore: Singaporean man told to date people of his own ethnicity

This video was sent to me.

I don’t have the full facts, just what I see in the video.

If it’s accurate - then it's horrible.

It seems like more people are finding it acceptable, to make 'in your face' racist statements - openly.

And some try to explain away, each time something like this happens.

Quite unacceptable, very worrying.

I used to believe that Singapore was moving in the right direction on racial tolerance and harmony. Based on recent events, I am not so sure anymore.

Would be good to hear from people on their views on the video.

 

Racism is a sensitive topic to talk about in Singapore but it doesn't mean we should avoid it and pretend that it does not exist. Looking at the world today and even in Singapore, we can no longer shy away from touchy subjects but should stand up to condemn such actions. Indeed a worrying trend and seems like we are starting to see an uptick here.

Truthfully, there are cultural ignorance and differences in traditions, though it's the same for families anywhere. If we only look at differences, there are always bones to pick. Definitely, this guy has some lodged in his whacko brain, and needs to be checked.

Not referring to this incident which i view as a manifestation of various kinds of neuroses and mental disorder triggered by our non-normal living conditions these days, same as the lady on the mrt...

However, while we condemn racists, we should also equally condemn those who nowadays like to play the minority card even when they are clearly wrong.

My friend recently told me indignantly that he was chastised by his teenage son as my friend would often say that "ah neh very smelly". I told my friend "good.. you should learn from your son to be more respectful of other races".

My friend was taken aback that I do not share his "traditional chinese beliefs" as we've known each other for a long time. 

Most scary part of racist beliefs is when it's unconscious and even taken to be truth.

Precisely i feel a minister of his stature should refrain from commenting on these small social media postings unless it is a police report lodged or similar seriousness. Maybe nowadays they are trying to court support from the "woke" crowd but it is really a minor incident.
