Most athletes will turn up lah. It's the culmination of 5 years of preparation to peak for these games and a lifetime of dedication. The vast majority of them don't have pro careers to fall on back. Or it will be the launch of their pro career like boxing or other sports.

You don't get to be so single minded by not taking risks.

If you are like nba players going there to win a medal, then maybe no lor. But anyway most of these athletes will be vaccinated. But the volunteers, the officials and supporters than bo hua...

Olympics was started to promote international understanding and ties between nations and cultures, through sporting events, with the spirit for the betterment of all nations.

In this era of Covid, the multi million sponsorship money, the loss of face for the host nation and IOC's pride ironically override common sense. Cross infections on a massive scale certainly doesn't count as the betterment across nations in my book.

Japan weighs holding the Games with spectators: Report

  Quote

TOKYO: More Japanese government officials and 2020 Tokyo Olympics organisers are leaning toward holding the Games with domestic spectators as COVID-19 vaccines are rolled, the Asahi newspaper reported without citing sources.

This is in contrast with their position about a month ago when there was an atmosphere among Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga's administration that the Games, starting Jul 23, needed to be held without spectators, the report said.

Tokyo 2020 President Seiko Hashimoto on Tuesday (Jun 😎 said the organisers would announce its plans for spectators before the end of this month after consulting with the Japanese government, as well as the Tokyo administration, the newspaper said.

Foreign spectators are already prohibited from the Olympics and Japanese may also be kept away from what organisers promise will be a sanitised "bubble" event to minimise contagion risk.
