If you tighten this tapered seal without the thread seal it will still leak. So it does seal the threads and does seal.
it’s like those garden taps that you screw into the wall. Need to put lots of tape.

Had a closer look, even the part leading down from the bathroom sink is wet so I’m not so sure it’s just that joint 😅

I think I best leave it to the pros

and it’s not so easy in this model to unscrew the bottom out .. sigh

So it's the higher up that is leaking.

There's also a gasket there. 😁

Quite surprised a plumber can't sort it out. But probably the leaking amount is minor that's why they can't see it when they test?

@therock check this area, the leak can come from 1 and 2 too when the large hex ring is not tight enough, this is especially so when the drain hole on porcelain  sink is not in perfect round shape or the rubber under the trap is worn, see orange ring in next picture. There are usually 2 rubber seals, 1 on top of sink part and 1 under, where the hex ring is. Did you change anything recently ?

Since the leak is not obvious, it will be difficult to detect it visuallly, try to wrap a small dry tissue on the blue area and see if it gets wet to isolate the top part .

By the way did you clear the reservior below ? If the reservior is chocked, water flow will be slow, and next is water level will build up and cause leak at the upper joins. Otherwise the top parts  will hardly leak because these are low pressure stuff.

Update:

The man came twice, and there was still a leak, by now, I figured, it's not the lower part, so I asked the boss to tell the man to expand his mind, and think beyond these two points.

The boss is a smart chap, he also feels it can't be the cap part. It's either the sink joint or the plunger / stopper thing he changed. So he sends his man down again, but this time, I tell them to bring a spare plunger as well as those gaskets that everyone mentioned.

After swopping out the stopper / plunger unit, all is well. So that particular plunger doesn't fit well and was slowly leaking..

Sometimes it takes a macro view to work out the issues, and I'm into engineering and plumbing in a certain way, so I took my science cap, put it on and tried to share that from my academic view, this was an experiment and if you simply did the same things, you won't fix it. The issue may be higher up the food or water chain and we have to expand our search for the leak.

Just glad it's fixed - fingers crossed before my trip...
