I helped you and used the camera search on Shopee - "Water pipe hole ugly faucet decorative hole blocking buckle sealing heating pipe". [sweatdrop]

Why would you need this?

Maybe there is a silicon gasket and white tape won't help.

there is usually a gasket there. it's flat, when you screw it down, the gasket keeps it waterproof.

if it's broken or sealing properly, then it leaks.

ptfe tape doesn't help much in that situation. many people don't know ptfe tape is a lubricant, the actual sealing is by the gasket.

but strange that your plumber doesn't know.

As in - add a gasket inside?

A new plastic one cost only a few bucks. They all come with sealing gaskets.

The black rings are the gaskets:

The screw-on "cap" simply tightened the 2 parts together, onto the gasket, forcing a waterproof joint. As I mentioned, you don't need ptfe tape, but just the gasket.

For brand new, sometimes have manufacturing defect. If you can find a correct size gasket, you can replace it. Otherwise, it's easier to buy a new bottle trap at the shop or online.

Plumber doesn’t know means plumber fail big time. Next plumber please.

probably need to remove and realign the gasket seal. But ptfe tape is a seal. Just that when used with a rubber seal it causes more harm than it solves and the surface will then not be flat to press against the rubber gasket. With only metal it does seal well

I have tried with ptfe tape on a flat non-tapered thread, Without a gasket, it will leak, no matter how hard you tried to tighten it.

ptfe tape is primarily a lubricant. If used with tapered thread, it will form a seal.

but most people will look at the white tape and say "hey, that's a seal, that's why it don't leak"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thread_seal_tape

"Thread seal tape is appropriate for use on tapered threads, where the sealing force is a wedge action. Parallel threads may not seal effectively with or without tape, as they are intended to be sealed by a gasket."

So I can tell my family to stop using that sink, unscrew it and bring it to a hardware store tomorrow?
I'll try tomorrow at Clementi, there's a nice one near Ave 2, near the Halal Chicken Rice..

Take note, the bottle trap has 2 sizes. If it's used with the wash basin, it's the smaller one.

The kitchen sink usually use the bigger one.
