I'm cautious about equities (US only because I don't buy local). Prices are rising while global economic outlook is uncertain. There are a bunch who thinks recovery is in sight while others (especially the institutional investors and money managers) are cautious. I'll err on the side of caution. I see a lot of $$$ is flowing into digital infra and rightly so.

I have very little in US equities, which is gravity defying.

The story now is if the democrats win the Senate this month, the US bubble will get even more bubbly.

I think DO is not as capable as people think he is. It's contradicting when people say that his company is not big and has not many employees and yet he goes thru such an elaborate plan to cheat his employees. It's small money.

Given he knows what is happening but nobody would have told him if he's caught he could end up in jail. That's also a possibility. When people execute a plan to cheat who will think of getting caught?

I for one do not think he is so capable. Can come up with such a plan.

He was selling and trying to squeeze more profit to improve the multiples and his earn-out?  TC only, people do silly things for money.

Cut FWs and we will find out.

Business have no bargaining power with REITs and deep pocket landlords (we know who). A stronger NTUC might have help but....

Cutting FW is cold turkey and squeezing SMEs.  Interesting article.

Prof Theseira surmises that companies don't think raising employee wages to a minimum level as mandated by law is fair, because they don't think workers are entitled to it.

"Now if employers had to increase wages because they could not hire workers at the prevailing wage, that is something that would be regarded as fair - but having an external force, the government, impose a higher wage surely strikes many employers as being unconnected to market forces," he says.

Also, companies could accept price increases as a result of market forces, so they are more willing to accept - even if grudgingly - that they have to pay higher rentals when there is higher demand for rentals in their area.

Twelve Cupcakes fined S$119,500 for underpaying foreign employees

Quote

The judge agreed with the prosecution that the offences were difficult to detect, as demonstrated by the considerable amount of time during which they were committed, and the company made substantial profits as a result.

However, he also noted that the company has repaid the employees the salaries they were owed.

The court heard that Teo had been negligent in the matter. She will be sentenced on Feb 25.

Teo founded the firm in 2011 with her then husband, former radio DJ Daniel Ong Ming Yu, 45. It was sold to Kolkata-based company Dhunseri Group for $2.5 million in 2016.
