I would say cheaper tickets for residents and it would be a success.

Can forget big bands, some big grandstands and the rest but there needs to be people there with, at worse social distancing and masks. Watching F1 this year, we see spectators and Indy500 at the weekend was pretty much packed house, so with LSL's speech yesterday to get everybody their first dose before National Day, then a run through of second doses, most of the country will be done before F1 since it sits later in the calendar this year.

By then, there should be no reason that locals cannot go.

No doubt it has been bad, but we don't treat flu in this way and we know that kills hundreds of thousands per year despite an annual flu shot being available - anywhere between 200,000 and 650,000 per year. Scare tactics to keep populations under control, in some ways to justify Track'n'Trace will, one day have the opposite effect.

Completely agree.

Locally +600 people die of the flu every year, even with vaccines (!)

And we certainly don't close down the entire country because of the flu.

he all but said T'n'T would be permanent, at least in my own cynical interpretation.

I don't think that's a cynical interpretation at all - it's completely real. TnT follows our usual government brand of pragmatic data driven approach.

SafeEntry, TT etc won't be phased out when the pandemic is "over". It'll stay with us forever.

SG looks set to become more restrictive, overbearing & tightly controlled than ever.

I'm surprised so few people seems to pick up on this...

not many locals are true fans of motorsports in general, and F1 in particular. Or should I say, not enough motorsports fans locally to make F1 here commercially viable.

motorsports doesn't jive with the car-light policy

most people here I know go for F1 for the concerts <_<

A few years back there was a FB thing for getting pit access and route along the main straight etc. on the Thursday evening before everything kicked off and during the garage set-up times. The F&B stands were also open in the main area and....the place was packed.

Sure, it was FoC and this was only an unguided tour of T1/T2 area and the garages but it was better than I expected and pretty well organised.

My boy photobombed V.Bottas and has a super selfie (he was short enough to wiggle through everybody's legs) while I had a nice, though brief, chat with Johnny Herbert before one of the marching steel-drum bands came down the pit straight. Poor guy was trying to escape the crowd and was walking back to the garage so he told me "Walk with me" to make it look like we were wandering off together 😏

Point is....... after 1.5yrs by then, you'll be surprised how many would buy a cheap ticket even without the bands, just to celebrate the possibility of some kind of normal life. Sure, none of the interactions will be like before, but it's a start.

I think a few of us have been trying to raise the flag on this since the beginning but it's the first time it's been hinted by government, from my own interpretation of his wording. I was a little taken aback as it was such a quick blink-and-miss-it type of statement, more so than we can eventually go outside without a mask. This would differentiate and reposition Singapore from the "West" more than it might otherwise care to acknowledge and firmly reconfirms "What HK does, SG must follow" and visa versa. Maybe this copies America's pivot to Asia?

It's like a new tax, very difficult to introduce something new but once it gets in the system (like Malaysia GST most recently) it gets easier and easier simply to increase it. The problem is implementation, after that minor changes are super easy, mostly with a simple software update rather than a complete change in SOP.

SafeEntry's going to be a problem if every mall only has one or two doors open and there remains an issue getting inside from the carpark etc. Requiring all businesses to electronically register their visitors for non-internal purposes will be a problem for a lot of those overseas companies based here. We will see what kind of double standard the Europeans and Americans can invent.

Should cancel.

No point blocking up the roads, and the malls around that area suffering another drop in footfall. There would be close to zero tourism dollars (retailers, hotels, f&bs) to be reaped from this event this time, given how the global covid situation hasn't improved much. Unless the foreign spectators regard a 21 days stay hotel notice as attractive, I don't see how holding such an event will still be commercially viable.

Extend F1 race to 21 days.

7 days of heat, rest 7 days and 7 days of race.

Nice view from the hotels there
