It is a red herring but there is some merits to the argument, big and powerful countries don't play to the same rules and transparency is no doubt lacking in China.

Japan can't hide this due to its political system and press freedom. China is easy peasy, just look at what happened to the Wuhan doctor and YouTuber.

i have a more simple thinking ... political leaders and politicians running for office ... all are "dishonest" "insincere" "mislead" "cheat" "liar" (good lies?) :D

else they cannot run for office and probably wont stay in office - sure kena stabbed left right centre

hence, their words is meant to be "hear good stuff" only ... but behind closed doors ... they [furious] everyone ... lol

that's why we have NGO because Govt cannot be trusted ... lol

If it is just tritium, then the impact will not be that significant if the release is carried out slowly. Tritium has been used in wrist watches in the past and even now in Bell & Ross. That said, I'm not sure what is the effect of Tritium on marine life as a food source.

There are also concerns of other radioactive substances in the "filtered" water which may contain more than just tritium. This SCMP article made reference to caesium-137, strontium-90 and carbon-14 (https://www.scmp.com/news/china/diplomacy/article/3129412/why-japan-going-dump-radioactive-water-fukushima-nuclear-plant).

Said article also suggested an alternative, which is to simply to wait until the waste water has evaporated, This is seen as technically feasible by the IAEA.

we dun take japan poor record and cover up of its safety lapse in their nuclear plant issue into account . and assume what they want to dump is what they say it is.

its a fact and truth that every nuclear power country is throwing those water into the sea.

but there is a big different of throwing 40t or 100t or even 1000 t comparing to  throwing 1million t.

this is the key.

no. you are right that we should not condone Japan, but IAEA approves dumping, which is very puzzling.

after WHO, sometimes I wonder if we can trust these world organizations anymore.

just giving my 2cents, but really, maybe we need to tighten monitoring of all radioactive dump, not just Japan, but China, Korea, Taiwan etc.

I dunno..

Maybe load into super tankers, cruise to nowhere slowly release,  dilute to safe natural levels??

I don't know what's the realistic solution when there's so much of it.

Where are these radio active water now? Flowing into homes in Japan? Of course need to find a solution for safe disposal or storage but why throw into others backyard? It is a very irresponsible act and those supporting this are worse. Inhumane.

just ask yourself, do u want to feed your family sashimi or fish caught from those water? or bring your family holiday in japan and play on the beach and swim in those water??
