NEA to lower vehicle noise levels, tighten motorbike emissions from 2023

The National Environment Agency said on Wednesday (April 7) that it will adopt the latest United Nations noise standards for vehicles and aftermarket exhaust systems.

A table it provided showed that motor vehicle noises will have to fall within a band of between 68 decibels (cars) and 77 decibels (motorbikes) - equivalent to the noise level of a normal conversation.

These values are measurably lower than current Japanese and European standards, which Singapore adopts. However, observers have pointed out that older and high-performance vehicles emit noise levels of between 96 and 100 decibels - equivalent to a commercial aircraft taking off.

 

Anyone knows what's the current noise level of a stock supercar? How about those LTA-compliant aftermarket exhaust?

no need to be so scientific , any cars that is caught having vroom vroom, just confiscate it and  tow to scrap yard. 😀

That’s the US standard.. you have a short period of time to challenge it but most time it’s scrapped as in crushed at the scrap yard .. not resold as accident free demod s

Wah .. somehow the first thing that comes to mind is like shoppers going to the mall with scanners .. 

probably have to build a tunnel and make them drive thru at certain speed after the causeway..

maybe re route to the old train tunnel to JB will do
