It depends. If I'm the writer of a commercially successful song that becomes a hit in every part of the world, and if the thief uses my song for his/her own earning, I will sue until that thief's pants drop. 

But if I'm a writer of a "national song" that is used for a non-profit motive, I will probably lan lan suck thumb because it will not make sense to a legal recourse. Yes I will be aggrieved because someone stole my song and didn't credit my name (assuming the copyright is with the original writer) but that's about it.

That said, MCCY could still ask that thief to issue an apology for the infringement of copyrights. Of course MCCY has no jurisdiction over the thief but it doesn't hurt to ask. This govt has a history of asking Singaporeans to repent.

Can't imagine what more they can realistically do,  making it a diplomatic issue is out of the question. 

India is needed to balance China after all.

We have nothing else to offer according to some ministars.  Maybe based on MCCY FB reply, we are so glad they want to take our NDP songs!  Now can we start to renegotiate CECA? We can trade all the other NDP songs.  We can throw in our politicians for free too!

IMHO.
This differs from what you said that you don't personally sees that copyright thing as a big issue. 
Now it has become when it impact your financial and reputation,  it will be a big issue because you will sue until pants drop.
Lesser impact of non financial and reputation,  you are ok.

I cite you a scenario.

A famous brand just launch a product line and a company has a copy of it for sale.
You are, by your example, saying that the company issue an apology of the infringement because as it was newly launch, there is no financial impact ?

IMHO.
I doubt he claimed that. 
Just like he never claimed that the SG song was composed by him.
To that,  his is actually quite smart.

i didnt go into his website to look,

but the dj mention inside his site, got a full list of  song by other famous composer , including a famous  beethoven pcs. lol

i dun know the lay out or the exact thing, but they say extremely 'misleading'

maybe like u say he is smart in that sense.

anw i heard they gonna interview the  Canadian soon.

I take a music score and I write a set of lyrics for it. 
I take a song  and I write a set of lyrics for my version under a different name. . 
I can ambiguously  say that I write the "music score" and the song (new name).
