Never thought ill be saying this, but I happened to follow my friend to test drive the Ioniq 5 58kw version, and man was I impressed!Β

The incredible interior space, the generous tech features (HUD etc), the brisk acceleration and the overall comfortable drive feel, all kept me thinking abt it over the wkend...Β

SE gave me a pretty gd Motorshow offer, but still thinking thinking..... Worth it to change my W213 for this? Badge wise definitely lose out... But the drive and space improvement is astonishing.Β

Any advice (for /against) wil be greatly appreciated!Β

Unless Hyundai offers a 10 year battery warranty, check how much it costs to replace its battery in Singapore, and preferably in writing:

I met 1 owner yesterday. He is very happy with his car.

He usually get about 500km in Sg.

The car was driven to KL a couple of times with 1 stop.

I also met 1 owner today.

He is more happy than the owner u met..

He also knows the car specs more than the BMW SE 🀭 @RadX

Better than glb180 with that Renault engine la. πŸ˜‚

but then isn’t it a lateral move? Don’t you need the 7seats? Or 7seats was just an excuse to change? πŸ˜†

I would go for the Ioniq 6 which now has a Cat A version.

Ioniq 5 really impressive but the overall looks and dimension looks kinda odd to me lah…..like a giant hatchback.

Also i find the steering weight too light for my liking.

Will definitely jump into EV bandwagon when they can produce lighter, flatter and longer range batt.

Ideally i would like to see mainstream bnb EV cars weighing 1.3-1.5 ton with 500km range.Β

i think very difficult to weigh less. unless you forgo some tech and battery technology improves by quite some. electric seats are quite heavy.

Thats why i say bnb cars whereby no need pano roof, electric seats.

MG4 weighs slightly below 1.7ton. If batt can slim down another 300kg will be perfect and that will naturally provide longer range.

That's on my list too! Cool looking, super long wheelbase, comfortable seats. My SE quoted me $180K during motorshow! Almost bite but held back because... Still loving my current E-class lol. Dilemma...Β

No disrespect but E-class is such a common car. Its good if you value it for the comfort but don’t hold on just because of the badge.Β

good thing is the E-class can still get a good trade in price as uncles love it in SG. Just follow your heart bro, you won’t regret one.Β

i was concerned about the range initially. But the funny thing with the Ioniq Cat A is its real range is higher than the declared range. Easily 400km.

Cos SG city driving is a lot more weighted towards city driving (where EVs shine) and relatively sparse highway (and our highway officially can't even go above 90km/h), so it's expected that EV's actual range should be higher than WLTP.

Take a drive to KL and you'll see the flip side. I get ~7.4km/kWh in SG but below 5.0 km/kWh on road trips to KL (how much below depends on how much to break speed limit by).

A bit too boxy for my taste and it is assembled in SG (i wouldnt say made in SG).

Ioniq 6 looks nicer IMHO. Think this is still made in Korea.

Purely based on aesthetics and made in korea, i vote for ioniq 6. It sort of looks like abit like a Porsche 911 too.

Me too! Testdrove during weekend...wow, the space and brisk acceleration. Now my wife and I keep stealing a 2nd glance at any Ioniq 5 we spot on the road. 😍 Fortunately there is a deal breaker - there isn't a decently fast enough charger at where I stay and usage of car is high. Phew.
