Ya agree. Benz will always sell so to price the Harrier near GLB is madness even though they are not exactly the same class of cars but nevertheless.

Toyota cars are getting expensive. Their move to be MIT for some models was supposed to help reduce cost amongst other reasons but seems like it's more to increase their profits instead[thumbsdown]

FYI Harrier Hybrid is sold for JPY4m or SGD 52k.

That's exactly what I mean ie Toyota overpriced.

Harrier shld be priced near Mazda cx5 or Honda CRV but I believe it's price much higher. A small premium of say 5-7% n maybe can accept it being a Toyota but more and it's just a case of milking the Toyota name. They got to be careful cos newer generation of buyers don't swear by Toyota unlike their fathers and grandfathers and with their not so nice looking designs, the days of Toyotas selling by the droves are getting much less.

Notice there are hardly any G12 Altis on the roads despite the intense marketing by BM some time ago? Compared to G9-G11 days, Corolla are a rarity in SG liao.

Yrs of stubborn unchanged drivetrain, GB, chassis, poor performance and not so great fuel economy, plus unappealing ah pek design, ever escalating prices, low equipment count for SG market ones... G12 Altis looks dated even on launch day, esp so when u put the Koreans makes, Mazda 3 next to it.

Somemore can sit 7 ppl, cheap road tax, nicer interior and the brand itself is enough to justify the purchase

FYI, GLB200 shared the same 1.3L !! engine as Renault and Nissan. The engine and GB was shared among the group.

You are paying an extra 30-50k just for the badge...

It is a hybrid.  That's why it is more expensive.

G spec 2L Harrier is JPY 3.4m in Japan.  It is comparable to CRV in Japan

I would say $130k thereabouts for 2l petrol which is what CX5 and CRV is going for.

I do acknowledge the 2.5l hybrid version shld be priced higher but $160k and coming from PI seems steep but it could be PI cashing in on being first mover so when Borneo brings in (if they bring), it shld be hopefully lower.

I went to see the GLB with a fellow 216 GT owner as he was keen to change.

My opinion is the petrol version being 1.3l might be inadequate. The friend who just drove it round the premises commented the engine sounded rough. Seems it's the same engine as the A class which is adequate for A class but GLB has more bulk to move. The diesel was much better but being 2l, the price was close to $200k. It is about the same size as the 216 GT though padding on 3rd row seats were better and i guess Benz does have a nice, premium interior. But it's much more pricey. There are various versions so I can't quite remember all the prices but i believe it's at least above $160k for the 1.3l petrol base version.

Friend eventually bought a PPSL 9mth old X3 M sport for $170k+ with 3k+ mileage.

Apologies for the distraction from Harrier, let's get back to topic.

I know someone who went to test the UX200 and was very Impressed until they tested the CX30. About 30|40 k less, but feels similarly luxurious. And equally fast/slow depending on your reference point. They bought the CX30.

@Cheefarn agrees. The Korean of same category comes with better design and features. Anyway in Singapore the most 10 years we can own the car. It comes with 5 years warranty and 3 years free servicing. Reliability is not really an issue to consider at this modern age since almost car manufacturers can access to relative same technology. Umm… having said that why some European make still have reliability issue. 🙂
