Help with STA Evaluation remarks

Hi all, just bought a 2nd hand car (5 year old, 62k mileage) and sent for STA evaluation.

Grading is B with the following remarks:

1) VEHICLE SHOCK ABSORBER RUBBER STOPPER SIGN OF WORN (REAR) 

2) VEHICLE UPPER ARM BUSH SIGN OF WORN (FRONT)

Engine, Transmission, Torque Converter, Abnormal Noise, Shock Absorbers and Wheel Bearings all normal condition. 

Should I be concerned about the above remarks?

Looks like the suspension is knackered.But I guess most people would drive stock suspension till end of COE.My current car owned from new has similar findings according to my workshop at around 85k kms mileage in 6 years.

Not critical unless you car is

1) bottoming out after a hump and you hear knocking sounds 

2) have weird steering feel or vibrations

These are part of the suspension system and made of rubber. They harden and deteriorate due to wear and tear - how fast depending on the mileage and how the car is driven. Stock parts are not expensive and you can change them during the next servicing. 

I'd be more worried on things the STA evaluation did not discover.

Inform your workshop to take note of the above when you send in your ride for a thorough servicing after you have collected it from your dealer [nod]

They will advise you to change or not to change accordingly.

These are normal wear & tear stuff .... no need to be over concern about it [;)]

Looks like you're in for a rough ride. Literally. 😁

Suspension components like this are part of "normal" wear and tear, although the 5 year timeframe with low mileage (as if anyone really believes used car mileage in sg anymore lol) may suggest mild abuse, which can be as simple as regularly taking humps too fast. If you're able to live with the ride, then it's fine. But may I ask: why send for an STA check *after* buying the car?

Thanks all for the replies. Looks like nothing to be overly concerned about! 🙂

To clarify, I didn't send STA after buying, it's just after paying deposit which dealer will refund deposit if grading is below C.

Why is everyone focused on the shock absorber?

Any further details on the abnormal noise? 

The way you put it is confusing. Does it mean the engine, transmission and the torque converter have abnormal noise? Shouldnt you pay more attention to that?

Nothing to worry about just normal wear and tear.

But your actual mileage hor... ehem... most likely much higher like 80-100k range. I found out my dealer "discounted 30% off" my old car mileage before he sold it off LOL

Mileage wise I've checked with agent that based on last servicing in Nov 2020 it's quite close so shouldn't have been tampered with. 

Sorry if I sound confusing. The engine and all found to be in normal condition. Attached an extract of the report.

just change all the shock absorbers, together all the  rubber stoppers and bushing.

you'll have a "new" car and less worry.

it doesn't cost a lot.

I DIY change shock absorbers before, all those parts comes as a set. If you just change the rubber cover or stopper,  the labour charge is the same as replacing the whole shock absorber, since you need to take everything out.

 

For upper arm bush, I can't remember which is the part. If it's the rubber (like a bell) containing all the grease, then you better get it replaced. Otherwise, after all the grease leaked out, there will be further damage.

that's great looks like you're fortunate enough to meet a honest dealer and got a car with decent mileage <20K per year. congrats!

The dealer apparently got the car from agent and it was also fully serviced by agent, so hope all goes well when I get the car! Thanks everyone for your inputs! 😉
