The new facelift Passat 2.0TSI come with 7 speed wet clutch DSG (DQ381). DQ200 only for Passat 1.8TSI, which is no longer on sales here (at least for now).

Or are you looking for a preowned unit? If that is the case, gearbox is just 1 small part of the consideration. I would check the servicing records and history first to see what the unit have gone though. No service record, no buy for me.

Totally agree. Service history is deal breaker for me too. Looking for preowned yup. Can’t stomach the high depre of new😅

Better still, get those that are still covered under agent warranty.

For VW, i guess its true that buying a 2nd hand unit can save u on the depreciation.

But for luxury makes such as Audi, MB and BMW, buying new one (vs a same generation used model) may make more sense. There is a very good chance their depreciation is actually lower than what u can get for 2nd hand. Do not be fooled by the list price in SGcarmart, those are list price. The actual price is usually significantly lower.

How much significantly lower can it go for Q3 or X1 for example?

My bro bought an X1 last month.

Effective buying price is about 131K with an ARF of 41K (which means when u scrap it at the end of COE, you'll get back 20.5K). Depre is low 11K and it comes with 5 year warranty and servicing.

Likewise for Audi A4 2.0 mild hybrid, i went to the showroom 4 months+ ago. The effective price is 149K vs the list price of 180+K.

Make a trip down to the showroom, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Will go for Audi with DL501 if its maintained properly. Older DQ200s suffers from on-and-off reliability problem since its a dry clutch unit.

Yup, share the same thoughts. Btw the mechatronic unit is the same across? It seems it’s the MU that’s failing rather than the gearbox itself.

Wow, a reduction of 30k for X1 and A4! Listed price really differs a lot!

You're right. The issues that plaque the DQ200 is not just about clutch wear.

But to put things into perspective, it does not mean that every single car equipped with the DQ200 will face problems. It's just that the chances of problems arising with the gearbox is higher than cars equipped with other gearboxes.

ok, just want to share that my current ride from day one is on a DL501 reaching 8.5years is (touchwood) still going well... except well moving off from a steep slope when I can slowly feel that the clutch would be going EOL and need to be replaced (if i renew the COE)......then again, proper usage and timely maintenance plays a part too...

May i know whats your ride's mileage?

My car's equipped with a wet dual clutch and wondering how long it will hold out.

i think if you plan to renew COE, good to replace early to avoid catastrophic failure which might increase the repair cost instead of usual replacement kit cost.

may be can hop around a few workshop to get the quote so you can justify whether to proceed or scrap your ride when reach 10yrs.

ya, actually you are right that once decided should get the repairs sorted out, but things like the MU if all shifting well, regular DSG oil change would already be good.(touch wood).

And then there is this internal struggle on whether to renew or to scrap after 10 years too.. haha..

One thing I realized that sometimes price is not the only factor when looking for workshop quote, i have seen some workshop when the engine is dismantled, have parts all over the place. just wonder when it back to assembling it back, how many screws, bolts would be wrong size or misplaced. scary loh.....
