Based on its gearing, need to pedal at 120RPM on the 9th gear to hit 50km/h.

Back again with another bicycle question, thanks in advance.

If you thought carmakers with 1 to 8 series to cater to every sector is confusing, bicycle brands are just as bad if not worse 😵 I'm looking at a particular brand X considering two models: one is denoted as 6-series and one is denoted as 8-series, with the 8 being the more high end one. Aside from differences in the suspension fork and number of speeds among other things, one difference that caught my interest is the chainring spec.

Sorry for the longwinded story, here is my question: What is the difference between 24/34/42T chainring (6-series) vs 22/30/40T chainring (8-series)? I know it refers to the number of teeth on each size of chainring, but what is the performance implication?

For the rear, how many speed?  Number of tooth for smallest & biggest cassette?

What is the tyre size?

If you cycle regularly on flat road, you will use up 42T chainring fast.

It is cumbersome to just change the chainring.

Pardon my lacking knowledge, what do you mean by "use up 42T chainring fast"?

6-series:
7-speed 14-28T cassette
24/34/42T chainring
26x1.95 tyres

8-series:
9-speed cassette.. spec sheet only says Shimano CS-HG200-9, which apparently comes in 11-32 or 11-34 or 11-36
22/30/40T chainring
27.5x1.95 tyres

For 6 series, the max speed is 33km at 90RPM cadence.

For 8 series, the max speed is 43km at 90RPM cadence.

If you are just buying for a leisure ride, take the cheapest one.

Anyone can recommend a decent comfortable seat? Currently the painful bum is preventing me from going further.

What is your current saddle?

Simplistically, this is the best saddle in the world for comfort

Bike Settlement in Waterloo Centre used to sell it.

Can go Jet Cycle to touch and feel quite nice selection of bicycle seats and many other accessories. Many of the items are available on Qoo10 or Shopee or Lazada etc. They selling more expensive by abit but you do not need to wait. But do not park your car outside the shop as I learnt a $40 lesson recently as is a hot zone. Actually can park but remember to pay for parking haha.

Thanks bros for all the feedback thus far.

I had a wonderful foldable before, the Pacific Cycle 700C - bought it as my mid-life crisis buy.. haha. Cost me 3k but it was fast, light and nice to ride.. but it fell into disuse and I sold it a while back.. kind of regretted it...

Then I moved to a place where I have a park nearby so I'm keen to do some cycling. Not those 50-100km rides, but some cycling after work to keep my ticker working.

The r9 will give a workout, but I also want another bike which is lighter so my better half can also go riding. She doesn't like the smaller foldables, and would like something lighter that she can also use. So a 'medium' bike will suit.. oh and I forgot - it should have an adjustable seat height to suit both of us.

The Decathlon bike was nice, except the weight.. I heard there may be a lighter version on the way and that will be interesting..

Yes, we want many features and the budget isn't high. I went into a bike store along Pasir Panjang and I felt rather humbled. Nothing there was under 2k... then I went to Rodalink and the sales staff probably felt my budget was too low for them. Besides, the bikes weren't that light either...

I recently saw my 700C for 1.5k and I really feel tempted sometimes.. but that's a lot of money and my main exercise is swimming these days - less impact and strain, but I enjoy a ride or two... so I'm a bit conflicted, and will look around more

Ideally, I find a bike like the one which is out of stock in Decathlon, weighs 11kg, and is a hybrid. But it doesn't have an adjustable seat though and it's not on sale right now:

https://decathlon.com.au/products/triban-100-flat-bar-road-bike-275?

Look at it from another pespective,  we all pay more than 1k per month of depreciation on our car,  but here we are trying to save on a one time item. In fact spending 2k to 3k on a bike could buy you years of riding pleasure,  , just buy what you like  , don't think so hard.😀

I haven't try Planet Bike.  Not sure.

See whether the saddle is smaller than your seat bone.

For Brooks Saddle, must be C17 or C19.
