Now it feels ridiculous to buy those phone + plan from telco. They lock you in for 2 years, with expensive plans.

End up paying thousands of dollars.

Now you can buy a cheap china phone, with lots of muscle from shopee, lazada or qoo10, and sign up for a cheap no contract, SIM  only plan.

That's what I did, changed to Xiaomi, good experience then get a cheap no contract plan that cost me $18 only

Phone + Plan is still cheaper if you can get either corp discount or bulk plan discount (like M1 multi-line saver where you get up to 30% off the base price).

Con is that you lose the flexibility of cancelling as and when you want.

It depends, if you are a moderate to heavy voice and data users and need a reliable network at all times, a plan with a discounted phone might work better for you.

Most MVNO users are seniors or young kids.  Very often it is a second line for heavier users.

That is interest on phone instalment.  Lol.

Heard iPhone don't offer much bulk discount to telcos but other makes are more flexible.

If you have strong demand with riot at the factory, you can command any prices and people will still buy. Even if they hike by 40% people will still buy

only when there is saturation of upgrade tech from one gen to the next , then u will have current user not buy another piece of phone.

I don’t see woman shopping for new fridge every 2 years . Heck I don’t see people upgrade their washing machine unless it dies on you

I think the mobile phone has gradually become a part of us, like an inseparable body part, increasingly necessary to survive in modern society. It will evolve further to become like the communicator in Star Trek.

You don't bring your fridge or washing machine everywhere but you bring your phone everywhere. It is like a fashion statement, you don't use it till it almost dies on you (unless for oldies like us) 😂

Well when iphone 10 started , sales was not that great because there just wasn’t enough tech to command the price hike of the previous. This round it’s 5g so there will be a need to buy if you want to enter the 5g network..

I understand what you are saying but really, just give people a reason to change phone and they will do it. Are you an engineer? Lol
