Our plans do include 288mins roaming calls back to Singapore and at the destination you roam at! Learn more here, simply refer to the column “Network Operator (VOLTE Calls)”. E.g. Looking at Malaysia, MAXIS is available under VOLTE Calls and you would be able to call home under this operator.

For SMS, there will be no issues to receive OTP but our plans do not include outgoing SMS at the moment.

 

 

8 can do roaming calls, Maxx cannot. 

8 cannot forward/transfer your local number too any other number, local or foreign. Means, if I sign for 8 and I have, for example, a SG VoIP number for free calls overseas, I cannot transfer it.

I have a local VoIP App number, but using 8 locally, then, is useless for free calls.

Maxx has incoming SMS for OTP but no outgoing and no calls, at all, during roaming. 8 is same and they cannot even forward the SG number to a secondary SG number that is okay overseas.

With these cheap-cheap lines, it appears quite a bit of preparation is required even before signing up so you know what each is capable of. On this, I was surprised by 8 not able to forward calls, for example. I guess I am naive on them taking steps backwards given I pay over the odds for safety on Singtel myself, since 20yrs.

Why do you need to forward calls these days. In the past I only ever used call forwarding for fixed line to mobile. Now I even don’t have fixed line

that's why I only keep these cheap line for tablet n spare sim overseas since is free for APAC. I still have my main line with Starhub that I can make calls when overseas.

Can you explain how does forwarding on a mobile work with sg voip number?

Same same.

Cos experience before,  signed up for international roaming,  but sometimes no coverage still. (Maybe local partner Telco issue 🤔)

Better have local card as backup.

Eight has the option to disable incoming  international messages and calls right?

Does this filter out all those scams? (For children safety)

Does it effect calling out if travelling?

I pay like USD10/yr for a SG number from a VoIP/SIP provider that is then setup inside an app to a SIP server.

Given I often receive calls from clients when I'm traveling, I found my bills sometimes quite high when they go to even the 10-15min level, each. On this basis a USD10/yr fee to receive those calls instead via data on a VoIP app saves a lot, over the year.

It's basically the same as SkypeIn.

Good choice... cheap and good... it serves the purpose of recording, alerting, notifications. I stay in a corner unit so not much recording or alert.

It's IDA initiative, every telco will have the option to disable incoming international calls and SMS.

It does not filter specifically for spam or scam. It just blocks everything.

You can upgrade to ver 1.2.1, it's very stable. However, do avoid ver 1.2.0.

Still in the box.  Should be setting it up this evening.   Noted on the firmware. 👍

The recommended firmware upgrade is 1.1.7 Build 20240809 Rel. 18610.  This one ok?
Your version 1.2.0 is manually update ?

I'm not sure, but mine is probably delivered with 1.1.7. 

I didn't pay attention then; and did OTA upgrade and found it was upgraded to 1.2.0. That's when the problem starts.

If you use deco app, you might find it offer an upgrade. Check what version, it will upgraded to.

I think also better to disable auto update. It's like "No problem, try to find problem" ?

Your download speed is very good. With giga 5G, and using phone to test, I can only get max of 300Mbps.
