I have seen Peter Lim at a food court enjoying a $1.50 cup of coffee with a raggedy old t-shirt after exercise. Driving a nondescript German SUV.

There is a point of diminishing marginal returns where more money doesn’t buy you more happiness.

Sorry but if you feel that more money is always more better than maybe you don’t have enough of it yet

The "have" ones will not flaunt cos everyone already knows they have. The "don't have" ones will always try to show the world they have arrived. 😄

Yes and No. it’s typically the newer rich who would flaunt. Talking about behavior worldwide. The old rich are much lower profile.

Means not rich enough among his clique for his own group of people to think he is rich. A 1m asset guy will be considered very rich among 100k asset group of people. Likewise, this 1mil will be very "poor" in a 10m asset group of people. It is also about self esteem. 😊

Actually the worst are the wanna haves who keep thinking that people are flaunting when people just regularly wear solid gold Rolexes to do gardening, painting, car washing, gate fixing, dish washing, wall scrubbing.  muayhahhahhhah

Even billionaires why need to stay in GCB? The house so big and cold, don’t feel cosy at all. Esp if only 1-2 person staying. Lol.

A rich man decide a hut is enough, or  castle if he needs to let others know he has arrived..

Feeding this desire to let others know one has arrived has become business opportunities for property developers, brand name car manufacturers and other luxury goods manufacturers who sell the dream of “upgrading” to a better class when in fact many of those newcomers have hardly arrived and unbeknownst to them, coiled the debt loop around their neck a little tighter. But hey - you got your condo, you got your premium brand German automobile right?

(but do you own it, or do the banks?)

Young people's salary not low thesedays + inheritance money from average SG  parents also quite decent, unlike the generations before them.

Yes, young people salary now even higher than me or very close. Don’t know it is they are high flyer or i am a failure. 😞

Starting pay $4.5K, rather shake legs at home if not getting that amount. Yes, inheritance like you said BUT all these don't apply to mid career folks even if you have relevant good experience. JD is JD but some unsaid criteria in the background is common.

Salary benchmarking is also done for younger generation to "catch up" to your mid career pay not for you. You can go ask any comp & ben specialist :XD:, good news is younger generation can afford any future BTOs with ease, no need to worry if you're a parent:grin:.

Why need to act big?. Act big is painful, you will always need to keep up with the Joneses and the expectation of "big". And in most cases to  keep sustaining that act,, the "big" has to come from loans (or from a doting rich parent).

If got high income, go put into investments. Act small.  In the bestseller book "Millionaire next door", their research showed most wealthy people live modest lives.  If 10k is the new poor, then acting small is the new rich.😆

There are exceptions as usual.

To be fair, most of the UHNW clients I dealt with are quite humble.

Those that usually act "big" are "not here not there" kind of rich :XD:.

5 cars garage

It's not a good idea to have the pool at the front. Zero privacy. All the 三层肉 will be visible to people from the living room to the car porch to the roads outside.
