Ah no. No such wish. Only for health and survival

Young kids waking up at pre-dawn hours to get swim training done before classes (those aspiring national swimmers). Or swimming until late evening then rushing home finish school work, then wake up exhausted next day.
It's good for body and competition, but the lack of sleep is killing their brains' potentials during their formative years [laugh]

Maybe cos we are not sporty (me and the missus), so no strong need to have our kids do any sports in particular.
I know some of my friends' kids are doing sports in a pretty serious way like you said. And they also invariably tend to be from the same background. Whether tennis or swimming etc.

I think the most appropriate approach is to have your kids able to swim and not drown when someone push them into the pool.  This should be the approach that u can adopt, in your situation.

If they can safely swim to the edge of the pool (regardless of depth)when got pushed, then it's good enough.

No need to think until open sea water, long distance swimming to save themselves. It won't happen.

to me, i set out to make my sons to be strong and effective swimmers.  they have a private coach and doing 1-1 and that helps with the really technical bits.  no joseph schooling dream, no school team, no DSA, no competitive swimming, but able to swim strong is in itself a worthy pursuit for your children.

and who knows, maybe can be like TS, can teach girls and rubba rubba a bit

Famous last words.

Well whatever lah. We only live on an island. Not in the middle of a landlocked country.

Im TS. not coach.

And maybe if you teach desperate housewives... Though these pple usually just sit by the pool and watch their kids swim.

There's this handsome swim coach that does swimming videos tutorials in Sg though. Think he probably got some housewives asking him for swimming lesson. Handsome angmoh/eurasian and got some french/Canadian accent.
