Accident with step ladder, safety concern

The very first thing on the safety checklist by Workplace Safety and Health Council (under MOM) is to check if the ladder is of sound construction, defect-free and using suitable material (e.g. fiberglass ladder for electrical work). The very same thing as before driving a car, we have to check that the car is ok (e.g. no bald tyre, working lighting system, etc.). But many take things for granted and thus accident do occurs on and off.

Aluminium is light and relatively cheap, thus widely used for ladder construction (including its rivet), BUT at the same time they are soft and subjected to corrosion under humid and corrosive environment (most of us keep our household ladder in store room or outside our house, both are humid environment in relative term). So it would be good to just take a half a minute to check our ladder thoroughly before each use. Some common defects to look out for are:

If you noted any form of structural defects, e.g. missing rivet, deformed step or support structure, it is time to get a new one. Think about it this way: your life worth much more than $50 - $100 right? Why bet your safety on something this cheap?

Not really a fan of heights/ladders. Especially these tall tall types...

Guess if you stay in those landed houses or penthhouse, you need such tall tall type ladder to reach the ceiling etc.

This is my ladder. Very cool, sturdy, 7feet  and made of fibreglass. I still don't know why I bought such an expensive ladder...

IMO, if your ladder is old, change it.

Corrosion can occur, even in aluminium models.

Falling from a height is not fun, especially as we get older.

Falling down is not fun, no matter how we fall.

My stool is solid wood stool. Very sturdy one. Swing at your head, u will die type, and probably wont even dent it. [laugh]

I got 2. My mum bought for me when I moved in. My parents house also got one, which made me want to have them at my place.

Anyway I'm tall enough. my ceiling is only 2.6M and I'm already 1.8m. So with the 50-60cm tall stool i can easily touch the ceiling.

I had to drill holes in the ceiling to mount a curtain track.

So it was one of those time, I have to get higher.

I think it's better to get one of those better quality ladder, but in the mean time I'm short, so I'll replaced the rivets with metal screws instead.

I don't enjoy heights so I definitely don't anyhow use it. I'm just directly above it. I'm not leaning outwards from it.
It's only for indoor use. And I'm tall enough that i don't really need to stretch anywhere too much.
If u fall from my stool, it's a user problem. Cannot blame anyone but yourself.

If u want to use outdoors in landed or a high ceiling of 3m, then no, it's not for that use.

It's this type of stool but circular. It's legs are all braced.

Aiya, it is up to you lah.

Seriously,  if I use it that way,  I make sure no one ever see me doing so, in case they decide to  "copy" me - young and old alike.
And I make sure the item is well kept after use.
