Fuel Regualator

The purpose of the fuel pressure regulator is to supply the proper pressure to the needle and seat valve. In other words, the fuel pressure at the carburetor is only correct when the pump and filter are brand new, and consistently gets worse over time. Thus, the regulator compensates for this!. FYI! [;)]

Thanks for the reply, one more question...

say I have installed a k&n filter, i realise straight away I lost low end power...

think too much air too little fuel... will a fuel regulator compensate the lost?

Would think that the fuel reg is tagged to the ECU of air-intake, etc. Thus, if you change the Sir-filter, I'd reckon that you should have some of ur intake re-prog, etc. Some discussion abt why u shld not put a KNN filter is mentioned in this forum. What wheels do you have anyway?

To add on, you may want to change to a high-pressure regulator for this purpose, to achieve the power that you would hope to achieve. Just my .02 [:/]

You may be running slightly leaner with the K&N and it also depends on what car you're driving and how the ECU works.

 

Newer cars have closed looped ECUs which works on feedback from multiple sensors that can detech any introduction of additional air by allowing more fuel by regulating the injector pulse.

 

An adjustable fuel regulator like PBV allows you to increase your fuel pressure, that could mean pro and con depending on your car and also your adjustment.....very much trial and error here.

Well, that'll also depend whether the change to K&N is for economy or power.

After using the k&N, overall performance increased... mid to high end more smooth.

 

Before k&n on NS highway, it was quite a struggle to hit 150kph

after k&n, can easily hit 170kph

I am driving a '94 rover 416.

perhaps you should go to an aftermarket tuner to retune ur ECU, to get a more accuraet air-fuel ratio in line with the regulator.

After using the k&N, overall performance increased... mid to high end more smooth.

There's a Dastek Unichip which is a piggy back unit. This means you don't have to remove your original ECU. If you install it the installer will tune your car for you too. Don't know about the installer here and how much it cost, but there's an installer in Johor that dyno tune for you. My friend's 316i was tuned at a cost of RM$1600 including the Unichip. Sounds very reasonable to me.

 

I'll have to wait for next year......till my warranty runs out, to consider this. [:p]

The thought of divorcing my babe is very, very difficult and painful! [:(] Especially since she had given me such a good time for the past 2 years! [cool] If she's a lousy b***h, then things would be much more easier. And to top it off, she drives like new now! [cool] Got new TarOx rotors/pads, new set of Sachs dampers and new fibreglass wrapped headers somemore! [:p]

 

I'm afraid if I were to go for a new mistress, the 'enjoy' department will go down south. [:p] May end up with a big fat lady since my wifey said my next car should be one that will force me to drive slower! And she's considering MPV! Ohhhhhhh.......I'm gonna get car-sick...........gimme that barf bag!

Look. She has been not the original. After the incident, she has been in-plant that those "look alike" silicon things (or even fiberglass) on her front, and butt. I hope you can get back the 'orignial feeling' like past when U do with her again. [laugh][laugh][laugh][laugh]

So, that means tuning includes installing a piggy back, huh? I thought tuning can be done by a simple adjustment of here and there for slight improvement or back to the defacult factory setting in the engine bay.
